13 July 2026 – A civilian man was killed and his younger brother was critically injured after they were allegedly arrested and beaten by State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military troops at the “16-Mile” checkpoint on the Falam-Hakha Road in Chin State, according to local media and residents.

The victims were identified as Mr. Kyaw Tun Aung, aged 37, from Sumhrang village, and his younger brother. On 11 July, they were returning to Hrianghnang village to retrieve belongings left behind after their family was displaced by fighting.

According to local reports, Mr. Kyaw Tun Aung died after the alleged assault, while his younger brother remains in critical condition and is receiving treatment at a temporary hospital in Falam town. Mr. Kyaw Tun Aung is survived by his wife and two children.
