20 February 2026 – Lucas Vel Tha Bawi, aged 3, succumbed to injuries this morning, Friday, sustained in an airstrike by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) that hit Cinkhua village, Hakha township, yesterday.
Lucas was one of three people injured in the attack. The other two, Mr That Luai, 82, and M. Ceu Hlei, 52, are currently receiving medical treatment in Hakha town.
The Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO) posted on its official Facebook page, attributing Lucas Vel Tha Bawi’s death to the extreme shock and trauma of the Myanmar military airstrikes on Cinkhua Village in the early hours of 19 February.
“While the world watches, the junta is weaponizing the skies to kill our children,” the CHRO stated. “Whether by shrapnel or by the sheer trauma of high-explosive blasts, the result is the same: Innocent lives stolen.”
The SSPC continued its aerial bombardments in Hakha and Falam townships today, coinciding with Chin National Day, which marks the 78th anniversary of the Chin people’s vote for self-determination, freedom, and democracy.#
