26 May 2026 — The Myanmar State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out multiple, intense airstrikes on the town of Matupi in Chin State today, utilizing fighter jets and bomber aircraft.

The latest assault is part of the junta’s intensified air campaign against the region, which is largely controlled by resistance forces.

The air operation began around 10:00 am. According to local sources, seven jet fighters launched approximately 15 air raids reportedly from air bases in Tada-U, Magway, and Aela.

A Y-12 bomber aircraft also reportedly executed about eight bombing runs, dropping groups of three or four bombs.

An ATR-42 reconnaissance aircraft conducted surveillance over Matupi, Kyindwe, and areas near Mindat throughout the operation.

As of this report, information on casualties, injuries, and damage to civilian property remains unconfirmed due to intense security concerns and widespread communication disruptions in the area.

Matupi, along with other towns like Mindat and Kanpetlet, has faced repeated air attacks in recent weeks.

Matupi has been under the control of Chin resistance groups, including the Chin Brotherhood and the Chin People’s Union/Chin People’s Army (CPU/CPA), since it was fully recaptured in June 2024. Since losing the town, the SSPC has consistently targeted former military installations and surrounding areas from the air.

This heavy aerial bombardment is the third major strike on Matupi this month, following bombing raids on 19 May and multiple airstrikes on 24 May. The attacks are frequently described as indiscriminate, often hitting civilian infrastructure, including homes, schools, and religious buildings, leading to widespread displacement and civilian casualties across the state.

The entire area, including Matupi, Mindat, Kanpetlet, and other townships, was placed under martial law and a state of emergency by the SSPC on 23 April 2026. – Reporting by Ben
