22 May 2026 – Troops from the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) entered Hakha, the capital of Chin State, on the late afternoon of 21 May, arriving in eight military vehicles from the Chuncung area.
The forces immediately secured positions within the Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 266 base in the town.
This movement is part of a large-scale military deployment along the Falam-Hakha Road. While some forces entered Hakha, the SSPC continued to maintain strong positions across Falam township and along the road, with an estimated total deployment of approximately 1,180 troops spread across key villages and junctions.
The influx of forces into the capital follows a dramatic escalation of military activity by the junta across Chin State, which has included forced recruitment in Kalay town and multiple airstrikes on other resistance-held areas like Kanpetlet, Mindat, and Matupi.
Securing Hakha and the Falam-Hakha corridor is critical for the SSPC in a region marked by intense conflict. – Reporting by Daniel
