22 May 2026 – The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military forces escorted Non-Civil Disobedience Movement (Non-CDM) staff from Hakha town back to Falam town today, according to local sources.
The staff, originally displaced from Falam, traveled along the Falam-Hakha Road under a full security convoy of cars and motorcycles provided by the SSPC military.
Reports emphasize that this transfer primarily involved Non-CDM personnel, while ordinary civilian conflict-displaced people were not included in the convoy at this stage.
This effort is part of the SSPC’s broader campaign to restore administrative functions in Falam after regaining control of the town on 25 April. The SSPC has been seeking full control of the Falam-Hakha Road corridor, which is a critical link between the state capital and the Indian border.
The return of these personnel follows other recent movements back to Falam. For instance, approximately 500 displaced people, including government employees and local residents, reportedly returned to Falam from Kalay town on 20 May.
Despite these organized returns, local reports continue to cite security concerns and instability, noting that the SSPC has intensified its air campaign, executing airstrikes and military offensives across Chin State in areas such as Mindat, Kanpetlet, and Matupi.
Some sources have also expressed concern that media reports promoting the return of residents may reflect SSPC propaganda. – Reporting by Daniel
