13 May 2026 — Intense fighting continues along the Falam-Hakha Road corridor as Chin resistance forces clash with a large military column from the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) attempting to secure the strategic route.
The SSPC column, reportedly consisting of over 400 troops mobilized from Falam town, was deployed to regain control of the key road. However, frontline sources indicate that the advance remains stalled between Dokthek and Chuncung villages, with resistance forces denying earlier reports that the SSPC had successfully occupied Chuncung.
A Chin resistance commander reported that the fighting has recently intensified, claiming that approximately 50 SSPC soldiers have been killed and many others wounded.
The casualties occurred during ambushes by the Chin resistance allied groups, including clashes between Lungpi and Tlangzar villages and near Ramthlo village. Wounded SSPC soldiers are reportedly being transported to Surbung Airport for emergency medical treatment.
The SSPC has concentrated forces at various points along the road, with an estimated 200 troops stationed near the Laikua reservoir pagoda and the local Ooredoo telecommunications tower.
Both the SSPC and resistance groups acknowledged suffering casualties and using drones during the ongoing engagements.
The current push along the Falam-Hakha road is part of the SSPC’s broader military campaign to recapture lost territories and restore administrative control in Chin State. The SSPC is also preparing to return non-Civil Disobedience Movement (non-CDM) government staff from Hakha town back to Falam in an effort to restore administrative operations there.
This offensive comes as the SSPC steps up military activity across the region, including airstrikes and ground operations, which have led to mass civilian displacement and humanitarian concerns. – Reporting by Daniel
