Junta launches heavy night airstrikes on Kanpetlet town

13 May 2026 – The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out a series of intense nighttime airstrikes on an area in Kanpetlet township, Chin State last night.

Initial reports indicated that two junta jet fighters, including aircraft from Tada-U Air Base and Naypyidaw Ela Air Base, conducted approximately six aerial bombing attacks targeting a location in Kanpetlet town between 10:43 pm and 11:13 pm.

Following the jet fighter attacks, a junta Y-12 bomber aircraft carried out an additional six bombing runs using cluster-style bomb drops on surrounding areas.

The attacks caused panic among local residents as explosions continued for nearly 30 minutes. Information regarding casualties and structural damage had not yet been confirmed at the time of reporting.

SSPC jet fighters carried out multiple aerial attacks on Mindat town between the night of 11 May and throughout 12 May, killing at least four people, including prisoners of war, and injuring several others. Approximately 15 civilian homes, 10 former government office buildings, four vehicles, and other properties were damaged or destroyed in the attacks.

Local residents were urged to remain highly alert and take precautionary measures due to the continuing threat of further airstrikes in the area. – Reporting by Ben
