28 April 2026 — The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) conducted survey activities in villages near Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 50 in Gangaw township, Magway Region, which have raised growing concerns over the safety of resistance members’ families, according to local sources.
Initial local reports from GanGaw News indicate that data collection is being conducted under a “southern zone” initiative in communities near the military base. LIB-50, which is stationed in the area, has the capacity to conduct operations and deploy troops into nearby villages, heightening fears among residents.
The personal information of resistance members and their families has largely remained protected over the past five years due to strict confidentiality. However, the current surveys have raised concerns that such sensitive information could be exposed or leaked.
Community members warned that if the data reaches military authorities, families could face serious consequences, including arrest or property confiscation. “There is a real risk if this information is not properly protected,” a local resident said.
The surveys are reportedly being conducted through village leaders, raising concerns that information could be unintentionally shared through multiple channels.
Residents have called on those responsible for the data collection to ensure strict safeguards and accountability to prevent misuse or leakage of information. They also urged greater attention to data protection to avoid putting civilians at risk.
The situation has heightened anxiety in the area, with increasing calls for stronger measures to protect civilian safety and information security amid ongoing conflict. – Reporting by Ben
