17 March 2026 –The National Unity Government (NUG) and the Chinland Government have agreed to strengthen cooperation in humanitarian assistance and work jointly on future activities.
The agreement was reached during an online meeting on 13 March between NUG officials, including Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye, and Chin leaders, including Chief Minister Salai Myo Htaik, and Social and Development Minister Mr. Za Thawng.
“We will work together more closely in the humanitarian sector, with a focus on supporting displaced people as much as possible,” said Minister Mr. Za Thawng.
The NUG has provided an initial 25 million kyats to support humanitarian efforts. The Chinland Government said the funds will be used in coordination with local authorities to assist internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Both sides also discussed ongoing activities and plans for cooperation between their ministries.
According to a report released on 31 January, more than 100,000 Chin people are internally displaced, while over 60,000 have fled abroad as refugees since the military takeover.
Aid groups say the humanitarian situation in Chin State remains critical, with urgent support needed for displaced communities. – Reporting by Ben
