20 May 2026 – The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out a bombing raid on Matupi town in Chin State on the night of 19 May, damaging civilian infrastructure, according to local sources.

At approximately 10:30 pm, SSPC fighter jets dropped 500-pound bombs on the former sports hall building and No. 2 High School in Ca Bawng ward, causing significant destruction. Casualties and injuries have not yet been confirmed.

The strike has triggered renewed fear among residents. A Y-12 aircraft was seen conducting aerial surveillance over the town throughout the morning of 20 May, prompting many residents to flee to safer areas.

This aerial surveillance follows a pattern often observed before previous SSPC bombing raids across Chin State.

This latest attack is part of an intensified campaign by the SSPC in southern parts of Chin State. Matupi is currently controlled by Chin resistance groups, including the Chin Brotherhood and the Chin People’s Union/Chin People’s Army (CPU/CPA).

The town was fully recaptured by allied resistance forces in June 2024, and since then, the SSPC has frequently launched airstrikes against former military installations and other areas in the township.

Matupi, along with six other townships in Chin State—Kanpetlet, Thantlang, Paletwa, Tedim, Mindat, and Falam—was placed under martial law and a state of emergency by the SSPC on 23 April 2026.

The repeated air attacks, often targeting non-military sites like schools and residential areas, raise serious concerns over civilian safety.

The continued aerial activity urges residents to remain vigilant and prepared for possible further attacks when military aircraft conduct around 20 airstrike runs on the town. – Reporting by Ben
