Situation updates in December 2025

Note: Each paragraph is a separate piece of brief news compiled in date order.

1 December 2025

On 1 December, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), the nationwide death toll attributed to the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) group has reached a verified total of 7,500 since the 2021 military coup through the end of November 2025. This total includes 1,928 women, 974 children, and 2,233 individuals killed after arrest. Additionally, a cumulative 30,045 political prisoners have been arrested during this period.

On 1 December, People’s Goal completed a six-week rattan weaving training program for (Civil Disobedience Movement) CDM soldiers, police, their families, and conflict-affected civilians in Mizoram, India. Eight participants graduated, received certificates and support, and were assisted with job placement to build sustainable livelihoods. 

2 December 2025

On 2 December at around 11:05 am, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) intensified operations near Kyauktu township, Magway Region, with airstrikes and troop reinforcements. Two Mi-17 helicopters deployed about 60 SSPC troops to Artillery Battalion 368, while an A-5 jet carried out airstrikes nearby. Fighting was reported as resistance forces fired back, and more troops took positions in surrounding villages. Casualties and damage remain unconfirmed.

On 2 December, the Hakha Baptist Association (HBA) in Hakha, Chin State, held an event last Sunday to offer prayers and serve dinner for the more than 5,000 IDPs from six townships currently sheltering in Hakha town. The majority of the displaced people come from Falam and Thantlang townships, with 703 households (2,658 people) from Falam and approximately 260 households (860 people) from Thantlang. The event, which also included IDPs from the southern part of Chin State, like Paletwa, was met with gratitude from those displaced.

On 2 December, American freelance journalist and veteran war correspondent Collin Mayfield was safely evacuated from Chin State to Aizawl, Mizoram, India, where he is receiving medical care for severe injuries sustained on 18 November 2025, while reporting on the civil conflict in Chin State. Mayfield, who has a history of covering major global conflicts, including in Ukraine and Iraq, was injured near Mount Kennedy in Tedim township when he stepped on a landmine while accompanying a People’s Defence Force-Zoland (PDF-Zoland) column, resulting in serious damage to his left foot, right leg, and left hand.

On 2 December, an aerial bombing by a State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) jet fighter from the Tada-U Air Base struck Nat Hmaw U village, Wetlet, Sagaing Region, at 12:06 am, killing five family members, were identified as Mr. Shine Ko (age 25), Ms. Su Myat Lin (age 24), their daughter Shwe Pon San (age 2), and two relatives, Mr. Maung Maung Win (age 21) and Yan Naing Win (age 40). Two 250-lb bombs destroyed approximately five houses and injured five other people, including two critically injured children, with sources reporting the need to collect the bodies “piece by piece.”

3 December 2025

On 3 December, two IDPs, Mr. Ngin Za Mung (aged 39) and Mr. Pau Khawm Cin (aged 40), were killed, and a third person was injured, after stepping on a suspected landmine near their evacuated village, Bekan, Tedim, Chin State, on 2 December, while searching for cattle. The area near Bekan, located on the main road to Falam, has seen recent fighting and troop movements between SSPC military forces and local resistance groups, leading organisations to issue safety warnings.

On 3 December, the Malaysia Myanmar Association (MMA) reported that a crackdown heavily targeted the Chin community, leading to over 140 arrests; only about 40 had valid documents. MMA spokesperson U Aik Lwin explained that undocumented detainees typically face illegal residency charges, resulting in imprisonment, detention camp placement, and eventual repatriation. Authorities may also bypass courts, transferring some directly to detention camps for verification and repatriation.

On 3 December at around 11:00 am, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out an aerial bombardment on Kanpetlet town, Chin State, with a jet fighter dropping at least ten bombs near the Win Hotel area and nearby forests. Casualties and damage could not be confirmed. The strike followed earlier airstrikes in October that killed three civilians and injured others.

On 3 December, the Arakan Army intensified forced conscription in villages including Thema Wa, Myeik Wa, Hnema Da, Laung Kadu, Auk The Ma Wa, Painnetapin, Ngashar, Kywethaung, and Paingnetpyin in  Paletwa township, Chin State, detaining Chin youths aged 18–40 and, in some cases, minors. One person was reportedly taken from each household, prompting many youths to flee toward other parts of Chin State and Mizoram, India, to avoid recruitment.

4 December 2025

On 4 December, civil servants, their families, and some IDPs in Hakha town, Chin State, have been compelled by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) to cast advance votes for the 28 December election, with advance voting commencing on 1 December at the MCH (Maternal and Child Health) centre and Immigration Office. Despite public opposition from Chin resistance, the SSPC election will proceed in Hakha (27,475 eligible voters) and Tedim (12,442 eligible voters) townships. Local residents report that while government staff are required to vote, some IDPs are reportedly participating against their will.

5 December 2025

On 5 December, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military forces conducted an unprovoked airstrike on Thit Cho Pin village in Shwebo, Sagaing Region, dropping two 250-pound bombs from a jet fighter, according to the Wetlet News Network. The attack killed three family members, who were identified as Mr. Myint Thu Win (aged 35), his wife Mrs. May Lwan Thu (aged 35), and their 7-year-old daughter Win Lae Lae Tun, and followed a previous SSPC airstrike on 2 December that killed five civilians in Nat Hmaw U village.

On 5 December, Australia-based Chin community leader, Salai Peter Cinzah, received the Refugee Achievement Award at the Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence on 4 December in Victoria. Hosted by the Governor of Victoria and the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC), the award recognises Salai Peter Cinzah’s significant contributions to promoting unity, inclusion, and diversity, particularly through his work organising programs for youth, women, and refugees, and serving as a Multicultural Ambassador to educate on workers’ rights.

On 5 December, Rev. Dr. Thawng Ṭha Thang, a Chin national residing in Yangon, became the first Chin man to receive the prestigious Lelte Special Award at the 34th annual Lelte Award 2025 ceremony in Aizawl, Mizoram, held on 4 December. He credited God’s grace and public support for the recognition of his work for the Chin people, national development, and fostering unity among the Chinlung Chuak people. His father, Rev. Dr. C. K. No Chum, also celebrated the honour. Previously, Rev. Dr. Thawng Ṭha Thang was named the Chin Person of the Year 2021 by the U.S.-based Chin Association of Maryland (CAM) for his humanitarian efforts during the conflict.

On 5 December, the Union Election Commission (UEC), appointed by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC), announced that elections will not be held in seven western wards of Kalay town, Tahan, Sanmyo, Taungphila, Taungzalatt, Kyauksonepin, Hlaingthaya, and Myohla, citing an unsuitable situation for conducting the polls, particularly in these Chin-majority areas. This decision comes as the SSPC’s two-phase election approaches its 28 December start date, even while the Kalay People’s Strike Steering Committee continues to urge the public to boycott the “sham” election.

On 5 December, CDF–Matupi under the Matupi Revolutionary Organisation announced the completion of its second basic military training batch, with notable participation by women. Senior leaders from several CDF units attended the graduation, reflecting efforts to strengthen local defence in Matupi township, Chin State. 

On 5 December, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) airstrike on a Ma Ya Kan village tea shop in Tabayin township, Sagaing Region, killed 18 civilians, including two young children, and injured approximately 30 others. The attack occurred around 8:00 pm when SSPC forces dropped two bombs on a crowd watching a women’s football match broadcast between Myanmar and the Philippines.

6 December 2025

On 6 December, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) forces conducted two aerial bombings near Sumhrang village, Falam township, Chin State, around noon, despite no ground fighting, following a more intense bombing the previous day, 5 December, where a Y-12 aircraft dropped approximately 20 bombs on the village. As SSPC troops advance from Webula town toward Falam town via Sumhrang, Laizo, and Lungpi, residents of Sumhrang and nearby communities are fleeing, mostly toward Hakha.

7 December 2025

On 7 December, Myanmar’s Joshua Van secured the UFC Flyweight Championship by defeating Brazilian opponent Pantoja in less than one minute at UFC 323 held in Las Vegas, USA. Pantoja sustained a left elbow injury after falling to the canvas, leading to a Technical Knockout (TKO) for Van. Van is the first Myanmar national to win a UFC title and, at 24, is the second-youngest World Champion in UFC history.

8 December 2025 

On 8 December, Mr. Kyaw Soe Lwin, a 23-year-old displaced man, was killed by a landmine after fleeing to Bualkhua village for safety. Soldiers reportedly looted homes, killed livestock, and damaged religious buildings in the village.

On 8 December, twelve civilians were arrested in Bualkhua village as around 300 State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) troops advanced, establishing a base and reportedly looting homes, killing livestock, and damaging religious sites, Falam township, Chin State. 

On 8 December, a 23-year-old Chin Christian ministry worker, Mr. Pau Muan Lian, was arrested by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) in Yangon and sent to a military training camp in Yae Ni town, Bago Region. His family remains concerned about his forced conscription and well-being.

On 8 December at around 1:27 pm, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out an aerial resupply operation in Htilin town, Magway Region, using a Y-8 transport aircraft to drop supplies for SSPC forces. Local sources reported multiple low-altitude parachute drops over military-controlled areas.

On 8 December, a CDF-Matupi fighter, identified as Mr. Aung Paing was killed during frontline clashes with junta forces in Saw township, Magway Region. CDF-Matupi expressed condolences to his family and honoured his service and sacrifice.

9 December 2025

On 9 December, a State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) column advancing from Budalin town to Tha Pyay Pin village in Sagaing Region was ambushed around 10:15 am, causing significant casualties. The operation was a joint effort by the Budalin Township Combined Column, Nyaung-U District Battalion 3-Budalin Township PDF, BA Battalion 1-People’s Voice Attack Group, Tabayin, and the Bo Tauk Tay Group.

On 9 December, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military launched two separate attacks. Four bombs and two rockets struck the Mu Htaw village Tha Yet Pin terminal on the Chindwin River in Kani township, Sagaing Region, at around 1:00 pm, injuring a woman in her 30s from Mu Htaw north village. The SSPC military conducted eight aerial attacks near Kanpetlet town, Chin State, earlier, around 12:15 pm, and reportedly targeted a non-civilian-occupied hotel zone above the town, resulting in no civilian casualties.

On 9 December at around 12:00 pm, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) jet from Tada-U Air Base carried out multiple airstrikes on Kanpetlet town, Chin State, after days of aerial surveillance. The attacks caused loud explosions and panic among residents, marking a further escalation of military pressure in the area.

10 December 2025

On 10 December, a large State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) column advancing from Webula town clashed fiercely with Chin defence forces near Sumhrang village, Falam, Chin State. The fighting, which continues as the SSPC attempts to reach Falam town, resulted in 3 SSPC soldiers killed and under 10 wounded yesterday. After the SSPC retreated from heavy losses, Chin forces seized three guns (two MA-1, one MA-3) and ammunition. Additionally, the SSPC conducted multiple Y-12 aircraft bombing attacks on Falam township, damaging homes in villages.

On 10 December, a Chin national Mr. Kim Pu (aged 27), died from medical neglect (untreated diarrhoea, dehydration, and existing injuries) in Tamu town prison, just before his 24 December release. Arrested in 2023 for alleged revolutionary ties and sentenced under Penal Code 505(a), he was excluded from a 26 November amnesty. Another female detainee reportedly died last month from neglect in the same SSPC-controlled prison. His wife and young child survive him.

On 10 December, at around 9:13 pm, a State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military jet fighter bombed Mrauk-U General Hospital in Rakhine State with two 500-pound bombs. The attack killed 33 civilians and injured many, who are receiving treatment. Aid writer Wai Hein Aung confirmed 33 fatalities to the Yangon Khit Thit News Agency, while a local volunteer assisting IDPs confirmed around 30 deaths and reported the hospital was “irreparably destroyed.” The aerial bombing caused an overnight fire, and rescue efforts faced risks of further airstrikes.

On 10 December, the Kalay Town Mass Struggle Steering Committee (KMSC) honoured Kalay residents for participating in the 10 December nationwide silent strike, despite severe oppression (patrols, surveillance, arrests, etc.) by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC). The KMSC also noted the SSPC military regime is conducting aggressive operations to force an election, and urged people in military-controlled areas to safely oppose this sham vote.

On 10 December, People’s Goal met with CDM military and police personnel and their families in New Delhi to discuss challenges, strengthen cooperation, and share ongoing support efforts. A total of 28 participants attended, along with the NUG Representative to India.

11 December 2025

On 11 December, a State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) soldier defected in Thantlang town, Chin State, joining the Chinland Council (CC) forces with his rifle. This follows a 10 December incident where SSPC Lance Corporals Lalengpuia (170467) and Min Kyaw Thein (149099) from LIB 269 defected from the Taingen outpost, joining the People’s Defence Force-Zoland (PDF-Zoland), a member of Chin Brotherhood, with their weapons.

On 11 December, the combined Chin forces clashed heavily with advancing State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) troops near Sumhrang village, Falam, Chin State from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Chinland Ministry of Defence reported significant SSPC losses, including officers, one captured soldier (LID 77, Bago Region), over 30 weapons, and a drone. SSPC forces dropped 64 bombs from a Y-12 and two jet fighters. Unconfirmed estimates place SSPC fatalities at 14-20. Chinland Government’s Column 2, CNDF (a Chin Brotherhood member), PDF-Zoland, and KRF are jointly fighting in the Falam/Webula and Tedim/Khaikam areas, according to local sources.

12 December 2025

On 12 December, the Chin Centre for Peace and Reconciliation (CCPR) announced it provided rice aid to approximately 1,100 IDPs across five villages in northern Chin State’s Tonzang township in November. CCPR’s Operation Director, Mr. Van Bawi Mang, cited security concerns for the delayed public announcement and stated CCPR plans to expand aid to other townships. CCPR focuses on humanitarian work, research, and development in collaboration with community leaders.

On 12 December at around 12:04 pm, 12:09 pm, 12:15 pm, 3:11 pm, and 3:32 pm, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) from Magway Air Base and Tada-U Air Base carried out multiple airstrikes on Matupi town, Chin State, involving several jet fighters and repeated bombing runs throughout the day. The attacks caused panic among residents, while damage and casualty details remain unconfirmed.

On 12 December, a friendship event was held at Tuidang refugee camp in Lawngtlai District, Mizoram, to strengthen ties between Khumi refugees from Paletwa township and the local LIKBK Church. The event featured cultural performances, shared meals, and exchanges of solidarity, promoting cooperation and future collaboration in community support.

On 12 December, the Global Khumi Organisation accused the ULA/AA of forcing Khumi Chin residents in Paletwa township, Chin State, to flee through forced conscription. The group said in the statement that arrests increased after AA took control of the area, leading many residents to escape to other parts of Myanmar and to Mizoram, India.

On 12 December, intense fighting erupted near Falam town, Chin State, between the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military and joint Chin defence forces. The SSPC deployed a Y-12 aircraft, dropping approximately 120 bombs. A soldier from the CDF-Matupi, identified as Anthony, of the Chinland Council, was killed. Joint Chin forces reported seizing an RPG launcher, two RPG rounds, a 60MM mortar shell, two Icom devices, and a six-rotor drone from the SSPC.

13 December 2025

On 13 December at around 4:50 pm, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out an airstrike on Matupi township, Chin State, dropping at least five bombs near the 9-mile area on the Matupi–Paletwa road. Damage and casualties remain unconfirmed. The attack followed multiple airstrikes a day earlier, raising ongoing safety concerns for local communities.

On 13 December, Khumi refugees celebrated Christmas in Lawngtlai town, Mizoram State, India. The Khumi Baptist Christian Fellowship (KBCF) organised the event at the YLA Recreation Hall, with around 300 attendees, including residents and visitors. The celebration was attended by MLA Dr. Lorrain Lalpekliana Chinzah, CYLA President Mr. F. Lalrothanga, and several religious leaders.

On 13 December, clashes occurred between State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) forces and local defence forces of the joint operations led by the CNA (Chin National Army) near Falam town, Chin State. The Chin forces launched a surprise attack on SSPC troops transporting supplies (weapons, ammunition, medicine, and rations delivered by a Y-12 aircraft), causing multiple SSPC casualties. The Chin forces seized five firearms (MA1s, MA2, MA3, MA4), 580 rounds of MA ammo, a 60MM mortar, an M79 grenade launcher (or similar), a Landmine Jammer, fifteen MA magazines, two RT radios, and one phone. A six-propeller drone was also destroyed.

14 December 2025

On 14 December, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) troops forcibly arrested approximately 10 youths on the streets in Kalay, Sagaing Region, for mandatory military service, according to local residents. The arrests occurred at around 4:30 pm near Tahan, Seihkantar, and Shwekyaungdaw. SSPC troops and Pyusawhti (Pro-SAC militia) are conducting night arrests in homes in Kalay for forced conscription. This marks the 21st military training program’s monthly roundup by the SSPC, which is also forcibly recruiting youth in other regions.

15 December 2025

On 15 December, the local armed group “Mawlaik Revolution” announced they successfully retook a base near Sut Nan village, Mawlaik township, Sagaing Region. After an initial State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) takeover on 9 December, which forced a tactical withdrawal, Mawlaik Revolution forces assaulted and recaptured the base from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on 14 December. The operation resulted in significant SSPC casualties, including six soldiers killed and the recovery of substantial arms: 7 rounds of 122mm artillery ammo, 3 rifles (MA-1, MA-15, G-3), 13 magazines, and 1200 rounds of ammunition.

On 15 December at around 12:00 pm, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out an airstrike in Kyaukhtu township, Magway Region. No civilian casualties or damage were reported, but continued military activity has increased fear among residents.

16 December 2025

On 16 December, the Wetlet Informational Network reported that four aircraft from Tada-U Airbase executed 16 bombings on Shwebo township villages in Sagaing Region between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. Additionally, around 12:00 pm, three SSPC Gyrocopters from Monywa’s Northwestern Military Command launched two more attacks. These attacks caused eight deaths (two monks, six civilians), ten injuries (three severe), and destroyed six vehicles.

On 16 December, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military conducted an airstrike near Khuangli village, Falam township, Chin State, dropping over 20 bombs after fighting with Chin revolutionary forces. Due to prior evacuation, no villagers were harmed. The clashes began as SSPC troops, retreating from Bualkhua village, advanced from Taingen toward Khuangli. Elsewhere, a separate SSPC column from Webula town is held up by resistance near Sumhrang village while trying to reach Falam town, where residents remain displaced.

17 December 2025

On 17 December, five jet fighters of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) conducted over 30 airstrikes on two Irrawaddy River crossing ports in southeastern Khin-U township, Sagaing Region, killing seven IDPs and injuring at least 15 others.

On 17 December, avocado prices in Chin State rose in December, with good-quality fruits selling for up to 1,000 kyats each. Farmers in Tedim township, Chin State, said all avocados are exported to Mizoram, India, and increased demand and more buyers in winter have driven prices higher, with most stocks already sold.

On 17 December at around 4:45 pm, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out an airstrike on the former LIB 140 base in Matupi town, Chin State. A 500-pound bomb was reportedly dropped on the base area. There were no reports of damage to residential areas, and casualties could not be confirmed.

18 December 2025 

On 18 December, a jet and a Y-12 of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) bombed Khuangli and Sumhrang villages, following a larger bombing near Khuangli on 16 December. SSPC columns from Taingen village and Webula town are currently clashing with Chin revolutionary forces. No casualties or damages were reported from the 18 December attacks. 

On 18 December, at around 8:31 pm, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) conducted an airstrike on Se Taw village, Wetlet township, Sagaing Region, with a jet fighter from Meiktila dropping two 250-pound bombs. The attack killed Mr. Nyun Wai (aged 70), his wife Mrs. Myint Kyi (aged 70), Mr. Zeyar Tun (aged 25), and an unidentified middle-aged woman. Approximately five people were also injured. The bombing destroyed three houses and one car by fire, and damaged two other vehicles with shrapnel.

19 December 2025

On 19 December, the Chin community in Indianapolis, USA, celebrated newly crowned UFC Flyweight Champion Joshua Van, a fighter of Chin descent. The event, held from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the CEBC Life Center in Indiana, was organised by the Chin Youth Organisation of North America (CYONA), the Chin Community of Indiana (CCI), and the Chin Baptist Churches USA.

20 December 2025

On 20 December, Chinland Defence Force (CDF-Zotung) reported that two of its members were killed in clashes with the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) along the Kalay–Falam route in Chin State. The group said the fighters died in active combat and expressed condolences to their families.

On 20 December, an alliance of Chinland Defence Forces, known as ZZLMS (Zotung, Zophei, Lautu, Mara and Senthang), announced that youths aged 15–35 must carry official recommendation letters when travelling within the controlled areas in Chin State. The rule applies in Hakha, Thantlang, and Matupi townships and was introduced due to ongoing conflict.

On 20 December, the Mara Territorial Council (MTC) approved the Lailenpi Town Administration Regulation Act and formed a Political Steering Committee during its Central Council meeting held from 11 to 14 December. The council also amended defence laws, reviewed multiple motions across key sectors, and reaffirmed its goal to oppose military dictatorship and protect Mara’s political rights. The MTC condemned junta airstrikes on civilians and said it will strengthen cooperation with allied groups.

On 20 December, CDF Paletwa (Chinland Defence Force – Paletwa) urged Khumi-Chin youths to join their fight against the military junta, and only to travel outside of Paletwa township for health and education reasons. The statement issued on 20 December mentioned that an all-in-out participation in the struggle is a national duty and historical responsibility.

21 December 2025

On 21 December, fighting intensified in Falam township, Chin State, as State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) troops aggressively tried to regain ground in early November. In December, combined Chin revolutionary forces inflicted significant casualties on the SSPC, capturing an officer, several soldiers, and weapons. The Chin forces also suffered losses.

On 21 December, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) imposed strict movement controls in Tamu township, Sagaing Region, ahead of the 28 December elections. The measures include closing the India–Myanmar border, restricting internal travel, enforcing a night curfew, and harsh enforcement against violators.

On 21 December, the Senthang Central Council (SCC) announced a ban on all youth-related events, including festivals and football tournaments in the Senthang area of Hakha township, Chin State, due to security concerns. The ban, announced via a Facebook post, cites security concerns following the State Security and Peace Commission-led (SSPC) election in Hakha town amid severe aerial and ground attacks on civilians.

22 December 2025

On 22 December, UNHCR suspended most in-person services for Myanmar refugees in New Delhi. Walk-in cases at the Vikaspuri office ended on 23 December 2025. Affected services include protection support, resettlement, and RSD counselling. UNHCR will contact individuals by phone or email and advise refugees to seek help through partner organisations.

On 22 December, residents along the Kalay–Tedim–Rih trade route displayed protest signs opposing the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) -planned elections. The signs criticised the elections and rejected violence. Local resistance groups said people in SSPC-controlled areas are being pressured to vote, while those in liberated areas are resisting safely. The protests were coordinated by local groups as elections are planned to begin on 28 December in several Chin State townships.

On 22 December at around 11:00 am, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) escalated its operations in Pauk township, Magway Region, carrying out village raids, house burnings, and repeated airstrikes.

23 December 2025

On 23 December, all departmental civil servants in Tedim township, Chin State, were ordered to vote in the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) Phase 1 election on 28 December. A leaked Public Health order mandates employee participation, warning of personal liability for non-voters who must bring original IDs and vote “with utmost seriousness.”

On 23 December, a State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) jet fighter from Meiktila Air Base conducted three bombing runs on Ngar Pan Chaung village, Wetlet township, Sagaing Region, dropping four 200-pound bombs between 4:21 pm and 4:24 pm. The attack killed three civilians (Mrs. Than Mya, aged 80, Mrs. Kyin, aged 75, and Mr. Min Than, aged about 25). Damage included the monastery compound, four destroyed houses (two burned), one killed cow, and three damaged cars (one burned). Casualties and damage are expected to rise.

On 23 December at about 2:45 am, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out airstrikes on Haimual, Lumte, and Congkua villages in Falam township, Chin State. Military aircraft dropped several bombs in and around the villages. One bomb did not explode. No civilian casualties were reported.

On 23 December, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) authorities distributed election pamphlets in Kalay town, Sagaing Region, under heavy security ahead of the 28 December polls. Residents reported repeated distributions guarded by soldiers and police, with no public campaign events. Elections were cancelled in seven western wards, mainly home to Chin communities.

24 December 2025

On 24 December, the Chinland Defence Force-Hakha (CDF-Hakha) issued a statement, announcing that a Silent Strike is scheduled for 28 December 2025 in Hakha town, Chin State. The purpose of this protest is to demonstrate opposition to the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military’s election. All residents of Hakha are strongly encouraged to stay inside their homes for the entire day.

On 25 December at around 5:20 pm, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out an airstrike on Mindat town, Chin State, on Christmas Day. The result reported that several civilian houses were damaged in the attack. No civilian casualties were reported at the time of writing.

26 December 2025

On 26 December, the People’s Defence Force-Zoland (PDF-Zoland) imposed a strict travel ban and curfew on Tedim residents in Tedim township, Chin State, from 26 December to 28 December for safety reasons. The measure prohibits all town residents from leaving their homes or travelling, and also restricts movement for those in rural areas.

On 26 December, the Chinland Defence Force-Hakha (CDF-Hakha) and allies clashed with State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) troops at LIB 266 base on Rung Mountain, Hakha town, Chin State, from 6:30 am to 12:00 pm. Resistance forces reported killing 13 SSPC soldiers, seizing a Point-5 rifle and other weapons, capturing the SSPC’s TV tower base, and burning shelters. SSPC airstrikes forced a withdrawal, causing casualties. Civilian reports confirm the shelling and airstrikes injured people, killed animals, and damaged buildings.

On 26 December at approximately 6:30 am, the Chinalnd Defence Force (CDF-Hakha) launched a major attack on the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) LIB 266 base on Mount Rung in Hakha town, Chin State. At least two military buildings were reportedly destroyed. Sources said three SSPC soldiers were killed, while CDF-Hakha suffered heavier losses. SSPC later carried out airstrikes and shelling around Hakha, damaging civilian areas. No civilian casualties were reported.

27 December 2025

On 27 December, an intense fighting resumed near Falam town, Chin State, as State Security and Peace Council (SSPC) troops, advancing from Khuangli and Sumhrang, attempted to retake the town from a Chin armed groups alliance. Heavy clashes inflicted significant SSPC casualties, prompting the deployment of jet fighters and a Y-12 for air support and supplies. The Chin alliance captured two rifles and nine ammunition boxes. While the SSPC advanced from Khuangli, with continuous air support, entered the village, their advance from Sumhrang was blocked; further fighting is expected.

On 27 December, the “Yawland Operation” began at around 5:00 am in Gangaw District, Magway Region. Local defence groups targeted the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) bases and Pyusawhtee ( Pro-SSPC militia)villages, capturing one Pyusawhtee-controlled village. The military reportedly responded with airstrikes and counterattacks, and civilians were urged to remain cautious.

28 December 2025

On 28 December, the State Security and Peace Council (SSPC) forces attacked Loklung village, Chin State, with 8 bombs from a jet fighter on 26 December, followed by 3 shellings on 27 December. The attack damaged two homes and left one unexploded 500-pound bomb, but caused no casualties. The 27 December SSPC advance led to a complete resident evacuation. Separately, recent clashes damaged about 12 tombs in the nearby Hakha town cemetery.

On 28 December, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) announced the first phase of the 2025 multi-party democratic general election in Chin State, held in Hakha, Tedim, and Khaikam towns. SSPC-appointed Chief Minister Dr. Vung Suan Thang, his wife, and State Ministers voted in Hakha. However, streets in Hakha and Tedim towns were deserted. 12 polling stations were open across Hakha, five in Tedim, and one in Khaikam towns.

On 28 December, a State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) airstrike on Tiphir village, Falam township, Chin State, damaged about 20 buildings, including a church. A jet fighter reportedly made two bombing runs around 5:00 pm. Three civilian homes were destroyed by fire, and the church and 16 others were damaged. The attack followed nearby clashes between SSPC and resistance forces, causing villagers to flee. SSPC had also reportedly struck the village on 7 December, damaging homes.

On 28 December at around 12:30 am, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out an airstrike on the Win Hotel area in Kanpetlet township, Chin State. A jet reportedly dropped a bomb. Damage and casualties could not be confirmed. The area had been targeted before, and the strike occurred the same day elections were held in military-controlled areas.

On 28 December at around 1 pm and 3 pm, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC)  carried out airstrikes on Tiphir and Zathlir villages in Falam township, Chin State, dropping multiple bombs. More than 15 civilian buildings, including a church, were damaged. No casualties were reported as residents had evacuated in advance.

On 29 December, local authorities in Kanpetlet township issued a notice banning the illegal transport of forest products and unauthorised activities in forest areas. The directive prohibits illegal logging, land encroachment, grazing, and transport without permits, with violations to be punished under forest laws.

On 30 December, the Tamu District People’s Administration Team has distributed basic food supplies to over 600 IDPs residing along the India-Myanmar border since 15 December. The National Unity Government (NUG) provided essential aid (rice, oil, salt) to displaced households in southern Tamu, on the Indian side, with plans to assist northern Tamu. Sourced from the NUG budget, an official told Zalen that despite the aid’s limited extent, the NUG is dedicated to helping those struggling in India’s Manipur State due to the 2021 military coup.

On 30 December, due to continuous confrontations with the Chin Revolutionary Forces near Kennedy Mountain since 29 December, the People’s Defence Force-Zoland (PDF-Zoland) Chief of Staff issued a travel advisory against movement between Kalay and Tedim towns.

On 30 December, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) shelled Sezang village in Tedim township, Chin State, killing a 10-year-old boy and injuring two youths aged 17 and 19. The attack reportedly came from LIB 269 in Tedim town, with a shell landing inside a Baptist Church compound. The injured were taken to Tedim General Hospital.

On 30 December, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) deployed aircraft and ground troops in Hakha township, Chin State, after recent attacks on the Mount Rung military base. A Y-12 aircraft was seen overhead, and soldiers set up security checks, inspecting IDs and mobile phones. Community leaders warned residents to stay cautious amid fears of possible airstrikes. 

On 30 December at around 9:30 am and 1:00 pm, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out renewed airstrikes on northern Gangaw township. Two jet fighters dropped four bombs in the morning, followed by a Y-12 aircraft that reportedly dropped around 80 bombs across several locations. Damage and casualties could not be confirmed due to communication outages. Residents urged civilians to stay alert amid ongoing air attacks.

31 December 2025

On 31 December, a shell fired by the State Security and Peace Commission’s (SSPC) LIB 269 from a hill post struck Saizang village, Tedim township, Chin State, on the evening of 30 December, instantly killing 8-year-old Grade 1 student Mr. Pau Muan Sang, who was having dinner. He suffered a severe wound to the waist, and another 14-year-old nearby was wounded in the arm. The funeral is scheduled for 31 December. SSPC troops are firing artillery indiscriminately around Tedim town from their hill posts.
