Hakha, 19 February 2026 — The Chinland Defence Force-Hakha (CDF-Hakha) has publicly rejected the planned celebration of Chin National Day (CND) organized by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) in Hakha town.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, the CDF-Hakha called on the public in Hakha to boycott the event scheduled for 20 February. The celebration marks the 78th anniversary of the national day.

The CDF-Hakha strongly urged people to abstain from participating in the event, which is organized by the SSPC, the local military authorities it accuses of staging the military coup, suppressing public freedom, and committing widespread atrocities against the people.

“The SSPC are the ones killing innocent people, burning our houses including churches and schools, and launching indiscriminate airstrikes in our land. That’s the reason we rejected their plans,” the statement read.

The SSPC local authorities are reportedly planning to hold the event tomorrow at the government complex in Chin-Oo-Si ward.

A Hakha resident told the Chinland Guardian that the general public didn’t plan to go but current SSPC’s employees were believed to be going.

Chin National Day commemorates the Chin people’s transition from a feudal chieftainship system to democratic governance in 1948, symbolizing unity, self-determination, and the rejection of autocratic rule.

The annual observance on 20 February celebrates cultural identity, diversity, and communal solidarity among Chin communities.

Following the 1962 military coup, the Myanmar military annulled CND’s status as a national holiday and restricted its observance, a ban that largely persisted until partial relaxations after 2012 ceasefires.

Chin communities globally are holding CND celebrations, featuring cultural dances, fashion shows in traditional dresses, traditional foods, wrestling, and other sports. In India, Chin communities in Aizawl, Mizoram State, plan to organize the day in two separate locations, while Chin refugee communities in Delhi are scheduled to celebrate on 23 February.#
