22 January 2026 – Approximately 300 soldiers from the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) arrived in Taingen village, Tedim township, Chin State, on 21 January.
The troops, transported in a motor convoy from Kalay town, Sagaing Region, reached the village on the main Kalay-Tedim-Falam road around 12:00 pm yesterday.
Local sources indicate the forces are positioned for a potential advance towards Tedim and Falam towns. The convoy, which departed Kalay on 20 January, consisted of five 12-wheel trucks and three armored vehicles, with troop estimates ranging from 200 to 300.
The SSPC forces, now in Taingen, could potentially divide into two columns to advance on Tedim and Falam. Their deployment may also be intended to secure and clear the area to support ongoing contract work operating under their authority.
A conflict analyst speaking to the Voice of Chinland suggested the deployment may be linked to securing infrastructure projects.
“The SSPC forces’ recent clearance operations along the Kalay-Taingen Road might be connected to infrastructure tenders awarded in the 2025 Chin State budget, specifically for paving key roads (Kalay-Hakha, Kalay-Falam, Kalay-Tedim) and repairing embankments/drainage,” the analyst stated.
Following a statement by the Chin Defence Force-Hakha (CDF-Hakha), some winning contractors reportedly requested security and road protection from the SSPC, which may have prompted the troop movement. – Reporting by Daniel
