23 January 2026 – A devastating murder-suicide occurred late last night in Kuhchah village, Thantlang township, when a 33-year-old man with a known history of mental health issues fatally shot his wife and daughter before taking his own life.
The incident, which took place around 11 p.m., involved Mr. Ceu Hnin Thang, 33, who shot Mrs. Ni Cer Hnem, 34, and their 12-year-old daughter, Ms. Iang Par, with his gun, according to local sources.
“He has been mentally unhealthy,” the village head told Khonumthung Burmese news. “Close relatives arrived quickly after hearing the noises and tried to disarm him, but he used his toe to shoot himself. They couldn’t save him.”
The village head added that Mr. Ceu Hnin Thang was deeply attached to his family. “He actually loved his family very much. Whenever people talked about going to Malaysia, he said that he would not go alone but only together with his family,” the village head stated, explaining that the deceased man carried a gun for protection due to paranoia.
Ms. Iang Par succumbed to her injuries as villagers attempted to transport her to the village health center.
The mental condition of Mr. Ceu Hnin Thang had reportedly deteriorated noticeably since last December, leading close relatives to monitor him more closely.
Funeral services for the three family members were held in the village earlier today at approximately 3 pm.#
