17 December 2025 — The Myanmar military carried out an airstrike on the former Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 140 base in Matupi town, Chin State today.
The airstrike took place at around 4:45 pm, when a military aircraft dropped a 500-pound bomb on the former base, according to local sources.
Residents said the strike targeted the base area and did not directly hit residential parts of Matupi town. Information on casualties and damage remains unavailable.
Local residents also reported that the military had been conducting daily aerial surveillance over Matupi town before the attack.
Earlier, on 12 December, the Myanmar military carried out three airstrikes on the former LIB-304 base and other places, resulting in damage to several buildings.
The LIB 304 was a key military unit of the SSPC (State Security and Peace Commission) stationed in Matupi town, Chin State, serving as part of the junta’s strategic command, but its base was captured by Chin resistance forces, including the Chin Brotherhood, in June 2024, seizing weapons like howitzers and marking a significant loss for the military in the region, as part of broader offensive to control southern Chin State
The MRO/CDF-Matupi, which currently controls Matupi town, has not issued any statement regarding the latest airstrike.
The continued use of airstrikes has raised concerns among local communities, as security conditions in Matupi township remain unstable. – Reporting by Ben
