Suspect arrested in murder of displaced Chin woman in Saw town

21 October 2025 – Local authorities in Saw town have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Ms Shing Khaw Vai, a 62-year-old internally displaced Chin woman whose body was discovered in a forest on 20 October 2025.

She was reported missing on 17 October after going to collect firewood in a nearby forest. Her body was found three days later, with valuables such as a necklace, earrings, and bracelets missing, leading locals to suspect robbery as a motive.

Ms. Shing Khaw Vai, originally from Dauthtway village, Mindat township, Chin State, had been residing in Saw town, Magway Region after fleeing conflict. 

The People’s Administration Team (Pa-Ah-Pa) in Saw has taken Ko Wanna Kyaw into custody for questioning. Additionally, two other men, aged 25 and 26, have been missing since the incident and were known to frequently visit the victim’s home.

Saw, sharing an internal border with Chin State, currently shelters thousands of Chin IDPs. These individuals have fled their homes, particularly from the townships of Kanpetlet, Mindat, and Matupi.The investigation into Ms. Shin Khaw Va’s death is ongoing. – Reporting by Benjamin
