Father and daughter die in vehicle accident near Hakha

30 January 2021 – A father and his daughter are dead following a single vehicle accident near the entrance to Hakha at around 2:20 pm this afternoon.

Chum Ling, 54, and his 13-year-old daughter Van Par Een, died on the spot when their vehicle rolled off a steep mountain road between the famous picturesque Timit Valley and Hakha Town.

Chum Ling, a successful businessman living in Hakha, was driving the Sport Utility Vehicle Toyota Prado, when he lost control of the vehicle and rolled down the steep hill until it landed in a ravine about 500 feet below. They were returning from Thanlang Town when the accident occurred. Chum Ling is said to be a novice driver who recently bought the vehicle and learned how to drive.

On December 14, 2020, two people were killed and several people were injured when a passenger bus owned and operated by the businessman rolled off the Hakha-Thantlang Road (National Highway 39) near Thantlang Town, reportedly due to brake failure.

Rescue personnel from Hakha Fire Department were on the scene shortly afterwards and their bodies were taken by ambulance to Hakha General Hospital for post mortem.
