Flight services likely to start in Chin State soon
11 January 2021 – The Surbung Airport near Falam, Chin State will kick off its services soon after the opening ceremony scheduled for February this year, according to the Chin State government.
State Minister U Soe Htet said: “The airport has been 100% completed and the first flight landing test went successfully. We are planning to hold the airport opening ceremony next month together with the Chin National Day celebration.”
The minister hinted that the airport is fully equipped with necessary systems in place to handle flights in and out of Myanmar’s western state. However, he didn’t mention any issues in regard to COVID-19 preventive measures.
Chin State still sees a continuation of COVID-19 infection with positive cases confirmed across the townships, including new cases in conflict-affected Paletwa town.
In October last year, the first landing test was conducted at the airport.#
