19 February 2010: [CG Note: Pu Lian Uk is an elected Member of Parliament of the 1990 General election in Burma as an independent. He was also a former Secretary of Chin Literature and Culture Sub-committee, of the Rangoon University during his student life. He is a former political prisoner in Burma for leading the Chin federal movement of the 1970s and for submitting the “Proposals from Chin Youth” to the military regime demanding federalism for the Union of Burma. He is one of the founding members of the Chin Forum and is presently residing in the USA.
19 February 2010: Burma is a beautiful country in South East Asia and is rich in natural resources. The population of Burma is about 50 millions according to 2009 UN estimation. She lies between the Asian two giants India and China, and her neighbours include Laos, Thailand and Bangladesh.
18 Feburary 2010 [CG Note: In the wake of mautam-caused food crisis in Burma’s Chin State, CAD (Country Agency for Rural Development) has been actively involved in responding to alleviate the effects and helping those victims suffering from starvation.
[CG Note: Salai Kipp Kho Lian, one of the founding members of the Chin Forum, was born in Meiktila, Burma. While studying Architecture at the Rangoon Institute of Technology he was detained by the Burmese military junta in 1972 for 13 months for taking part as a signatory of the Proposal of Chin Youth demanding Federal Democracy System for the country. In 1974, he took part during the U Thant funeral Strike and was arrested again along with 10,000 other demonstrators inside the Rangoon University campus. He took part actively in organizing the Thakhin Ko Daw Hmaing Centennial Strike in 1976.
[CG Note: Dr. Salai Ngun Cung Lian, one of the Chin Forum Managing Board Members, who was born in East-Maraland, Burma, received a Burmese Refugee Scholarship from the United States Information Agency in 1996 and earned his BA in International Economics and Cultural Affairs from Valparaiso University and his LL.M from the IU School of Law – Bloomington in 2001.
17 February 2010: New military offensives against ethnic Karens in eastern Burma by the military regime have prompted frantic appeals from the Karen National Union (KNU).
16 February 2010: London-based international rights watchdog Amnesty International (AI) has today urged Burma’s ruling military regime to end repression of ethnic minorities before the elections scheduled to he held later this year.
15 February 2010: On the second anniversary of their father’s death, the children of assassinated Karen revolutionary leader have issued emotional pleas yesterday calling for unity among their people, saying disunity only weakens the Karen people and benefits their oppressor, the Burmese military regime.
12 February 2010: The European Parliament has issued fresh rebukes at Burma’s military regimes’ continued failure to improve human rights and to meet international expectations regarding the planned elections this year.
