Chin singer wins Burma’s singing competition

15 February 2016 — A Chin contestant won the first prize of a nationwide X-Factor-style singing competition ‘Eain Mat Sone Yar’ after receiving the majority vote against his opponents last Saturday.

David Lai got nearly 50 per cent of the vote while his two female rivals, Hazel and Thi Thi Soe, received less than 30 per cent each in the Season 2  grand finale held in Rangoon.

In his victory speech, Lai praised God for his success as he also thanked the audience and his mentors for their support throughout the process since the beginning.

The Mara Chin singer, originally from Matupi Township, Chin State, was awarded 5million kyats.

Last year, Chin female singer Jenevy Sui won the second prize of the competition.#
