Govt to Install New Satellite TV Dishes in Paletwa

23 November 2011: Burma’s government has approved of installing new satellite television services via DTH (Direct-to-Home) for home reception in Paletwa Township, Chin State.

A total of ten DTH dishes will be put up in order to provide home television services to all the villages in Paletwa Township in southern parts of Chin State, according to sources.

The current television facility in the Chin township, which was set up in 1998, could only provide up to 15 percent of the whole population so far, the Yoyarlay.com said.

It is claimed that the new installation of TV dishes will give a good reception to home TV viewers in villages across Paletwa Township.

However, details of the newly approved project as to when and how the installation will take place have not yet been revealed.

One of the Chin locals from Paletwa Township told Chinland Guardian: “We are still in the dark but if this plan is materialized, all the people will be happy. We are all excited about it but we just have to wait and see if this actually happens or not.”

It is estimated that there are more than 90,000 people with about 14,100 houses in the whole township of Paletwa in Chin State.

Paletwa, the biggest town of Paletwa Township in Chin State, has got at least two internet cafes made available to public use only in mid this year.

With 73 percent of its population living under the poverty line, Chin State has been ranked the poorest among the 14 states and divisions in Burma, according to a report ‘Poverty Profile’ published in 2011 by the UNDP.
