17 March 2026 – Chief Minister of the Chinland Government Salai Myo Htaik led a high-level delegation on a field visit to Hakha township and the Zotung region from 10 to 12 March to inspect tax collection checkpoints, known as “tax gates.”

The visit aimed to evaluate the systematic operation of these revenue points, conduct on-site assessments, and ensure efficient tax collection to support the administration’s governance and services in liberated areas of Chin State.

According to an official statement from the Chinland Government, the inspections focused on the current state of tax revenue generation and the overall management of these strategic checkpoints, which serve as key funding sources for resistance efforts and civilian administration.

The delegation included cabinet members, though specific names beyond the Chief Minister were not detailed in the report.

Salai Myo Htaik, a native of Paletwa township, was elected as Chief Minister for the Chinland Government’s second term following elections held from 19–31 January 2026. He succeeded the first-term Chief Minister, Pu Pa Thang.

The Chinland Government, established by the Chinland Council (a coalition of Chin resistance groups including the Chin National Front), operates in significant portions of Chin State under control of anti-junta forces following the 2021 coup.

Tax gates—checkpoints collecting fees on goods, vehicles, and trade routes—are vital for funding local governance, defence, and public services amid ongoing conflict with the Myanmar military junta (rebranded as the State Security and Peace Commission or SSPC).

These revenue mechanisms help sustain parallel administration in resistance-held territories, including Hakha (the state capital, largely under Chin control) and surrounding areas like Zotung. The inspections reflect efforts to strengthen administrative efficiency and financial transparency during the second term. – Reporting by Daniel
