27 July 2026 – Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Abhay Thakur met with religious leaders, community elders, and representatives from the Falam and Tedim areas in Kalay town, Sagaing Region, on the evening of 26 July, following discussions on the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway.
Held at the Thike Hotel from approximately 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, the meeting focused on the situation in Chin State and the challenges facing conflict-displaced people who have sought refuge in Kalay town.
The representatives briefed the ambassador on the humanitarian and socioeconomic conditions affecting Chin communities. Dr. Run Bik highlighted the situation of nearly 2,000 displaced households from 42 villages in Falam township, who are reportedly unable to engage in agriculture and urgently require humanitarian and food assistance.
The group appealed for support for the affected communities and outlined the difficulties faced by those displaced by the conflict.
Ambassador Abhay Thakur said India wished to continue working with the Chin people and would have many opportunities for cooperation if genuine peace and stability were restored in Chin State.
He also stated that the Indian government would not forcibly return approximately 85,000 Myanmar nationals currently taking refuge in India until they could safely return to their places of origin. The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts. – Reporting by Daniel
