22 July 2026 – Residents of Leitawhtan Ward in Tedim town, Chin State, reported hearing sustained gunfire on the evening of 21 July 2026, marking yet another incident of insecurity in the region.
The sounds, which occurred at approximately 7:50 pm and reportedly lasted until 8:00 pm, caused significant alarm among the local population.
Witnesses described the noise as resembling an exchange of fire originating from the outskirts of the Tedim-Leitawhtan area. As of the morning of 22 July, no statements regarding the incident had been issued by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military, the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA), or the People’s Defence Force-Zoland (PDF Zoland).
While the SSPC military has declared a state of emergency in the majority of Chin State’s townships, Tedim remains a notable exception. However, residents indicate that the lack of this official designation has provided little insulation from the volatility that has plagued the region for years.
