SSPC conducts repeated airstrikes on Mindat and Kanpetlet

7 July 2026 — The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military carried out repeated airstrikes on Mindat and Kanpetlet townships in southern Chin State between 3 and 6 July, according to local sources.

On 3 July, a Y-12 bomber aircraft from Tada-U Air Base conducted 10 bombing runs near Mindat between 7:15 am and 7:33 am, dropping around 30 bombs in clusters of two and three. 

The same aircraft also carried out around eight additional bombing runs over eastern Kanpetlet township.

On 5 July, the SSPC launched another round of attacks. Between 6:17 am and 6:52 am, a Y-12 bomber aircraft conducted six bombing runs near Mindat, dropping around 30 bombs in clusters of four and six.

The aircraft also carried out additional airstrikes in Kanpetlet township, although the exact number of bombing runs and bombs dropped there could not be confirmed.

On the night of 6 July,  at approximately 10:08 pm, a fighter jet from Tada-U Air Base carried out two separate airstrikes, first dropping two high-explosive bombs on a location in Mindat town before dropping two more bombs on a nearby village.

At around 10:14 pm, the same aircraft carried out a second airstrike, dropping two more bombs on a village in Mindat township. 

Preliminary reports indicate that more than 10 civilian houses were damaged in the attacks, while several civilians were reportedly injured. The exact number of casualties and the full extent of the damage could not be immediately confirmed, as assessments are ongoing.
