16 June 2026 – Heavy fighting has continued for nearly a week in Thantlang town, Chin State, between the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military forces and Chin resistance groups, with reports indicating significant SSPC casualties and injuries.
According to local resistance sources, a SSPC column that advanced from Hakha town arrived in Thantlang on 9 June and joined forces with troops already stationed in the town. The combined force, estimated at around 300 SSPC troops, subsequently launched offensives against positions held by Chin resistance forces.
Daily clashes have been reported across Thantlang town since 10 June, with some of the heaviest fighting occurring on 13 and 14 June. A spokesperson for Chinland Defence Force-Thantlang (CDF-Thantlang) said at least five SSPC soldiers were killed during the fighting, while many others were wounded. The resistance group reported no casualties on its side.
The SSPC has employed artillery and kamikaze drones in attacks against resistance-held positions. According to resistance sources, SSPC troops currently control the police station in central Thantlang and several other locations, maintaining positions at around 10 sites within the town. Most of the remaining areas, however, are said to remain under the control of Chin resistance forces.
Resistance groups said they are continuing efforts to defend Thantlang town from falling under full SSPC control and have called on the public to provide support for the ongoing defense of the town.
The fighting represents one of the most intense recent clashes along the Hakha-Falam-Kalay corridor in Chin State, as both sides seek to consolidate their positions in and around Thantlang.#
