15 June 2026 – A man transporting four students to No. 7 Basic Education School in Kalay town, Sagaing Region, was reportedly detained by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military forces for military conscription this morning.

The man was driving a motorcycle sidecar and taking the students to sit for a school examination when he was reportedly arrested. The students, who had traveled from villages outside Kalay town to take the examination, were not detained.

Local residents said students from surrounding villages, including Letpanchaung and Natmyaung, had come to Kalay town to sit for examinations corresponding to their age and grade level.

Sources also reported that SSPC forces have recently stepped-up arrests and forced recruitment efforts across Kalay town, with civilians increasingly being targeted for military service and porter duties. – Reporting by Daniel
