18 February 2026 — At least three members of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) were reportedly killed in a rocket attack carried out by local resistance forces in Gangaw township, Magway Region, on 16 February.
The attack targeted a SSPC outpost of Infantry Battalion 50 based in Aungmyin village, located about one mile from Gangaw town along the Myittha River. The outpost was reportedly staffed by between 20 and 30 SSPC soldiers.
According to resistance sources from Yaw Alinn Tan, three rockets were fired at the base on Sunday afternoon. The projectiles reportedly landed inside the compound and nearby areas, causing explosions and casualties.
Initial reports said two soldiers were seriously injured and later died. Subsequent local sources reported that the death toll had risen to three, with several others wounded. The claims could not be independently verified.
The operation was reportedly led by the Gangaw township-based Unity Rocket Organisation in coordination with the Black Dragon Force. It was described as the third operation in the area involving the use of rockets and heavy weapons.
Resistance groups have urged civilians to avoid areas near military bases and checkpoints in Gangaw township due to the risk of further clashes. – Reporting by Ben
