HAKHA, Chin State, 10 June 2026 – The Hakha Township Public Healthcare & IDPs Management Committee has launched an urgent relief initiative to provide essential food supplies to internally displaced persons (IDPs) facing severe hardships in Hakha town.
As conflict intensifies across the region, causing further displacement and economic strain, the committee is distributing free rice and cooking oil to the most vulnerable households.
The distribution effort, which began on 10 June 2026, is scheduled to run daily from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the committee’s office, with operations continuing through 26 June.
To ensure orderly and secure distribution, the committee has mandated that all aid be collected through the pastors of local town churches, explicitly prohibiting individual collection at the distribution site.
A committee representative speaking to The Chinland Guardian noted that the relief effort is a direct response to the escalating crisis. “As the conflict intensified and began impacting local communities, we called on churches in the town to provide immediate assistance as part of an emergency response effort.”
According to the committee, this phase of the aid program has successfully reached approximately 200 households. The initiative relies entirely on donations from local churches and individual supporters, highlighting the critical role of community solidarity in the absence of broader state-provided welfare.
The situation in Chin State remains fragile, with recurring violence and instability continuing to displace residents. The need for food assistance has become increasingly acute due to rising commodity prices and transportation disruptions caused by ongoing clashes.
This current distribution of rice and cooking oil follows earlier relief efforts by the committee, including the distribution of clothing to displaced families in May 2026. The committee has previously established arrangements for those unable to find temporary shelter, offering accommodation at the Chin Christian University (CCU) building, which serves as an IDP camp.
These efforts underscore the ongoing challenges faced by humanitarian groups in the region, which must operate within a complex security landscape to support thousands of people who have fled their homes due to the conflict.
The committee continues to coordinate with community leaders and religious organizations to ensure that life-saving resources reach those in the most urgent need.
