9 March 2026 – A body, believed to be the victim of an extrajudicial killing by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military, was discovered and cremated by local residents in Tuphei village, Falam township, Chin State, on 8 March.
SSPC troops reportedly killed and buried the man in front of a local resident’s house.
Local residents commented on the grim discovery: “We don’t know whether he was killed elsewhere and buried here, or if he was killed right there. He had been deceased for a long time, making identification impossible. None of our villagers are missing. He could be a member of the revolutionary forces, or even a member of their own forces.”
The incident occurs amidst a four-month-long offensive by the SSPC military in Falam township, during which they have allegedly burned and destroyed civilian homes and churches.
Reports also indicate the military has insulted and abused religious leaders, including an account of soldiers defecating on a Bishop’s bed.
Due to the SSPC military’s intrusion and arson attacks in villages such as Farso, Tuphei, Lunghawh, and Hlanzawl, over 2,250 local residents in Falam township have been displaced and are urgently in need of assistance. – Reporting by Dan
