26 May 2026 — Authorities in Lawngtlai District, Mizoram State, have put strict limits on selling and moving fuel.

This is to stop illegal smuggling to Myanmar and prevent fuel shortages in the district.

The order was issued on 22 May by Lawngtlai District Magistrate Donny Lalruatsanga (MCS) following directions from the Mizoram State Government.

Fuel stations cannot sell petrol or diesel for more than the official price (no black-market sales). They can sell only up to 30 litres of petrol and 100 litres of diesel per transaction to people without a fuel license.

Moving or smuggling fuel to neighboring Myanmar or outside the district is banned without official permission. Only people with special permits are allowed to transport fuel.

The order stops people from storing too much fuel (hoarding) or storing it unsafely within the district.

The district administration warned that breaking these rules will lead to legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) law.

Meanwhile, Lalropuia Chinzah, from the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC), warned the Lawngtlai District Merchant Association (LDMA) about the rising amount of unregulated trade across the border with Myanmar. These restrictions will last for two months. – Reporting by Ben
