24 May 2026 – The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) carried out multiple airstrikes on Matupi town in Chin State in the morning today.

Residents reported that military aircraft from Taungoo air bases conducted around 20 airstrike runs targeting locations in Matupi town between 9:00 am and 10:00 am.

According to information received by the data team from the Chin Human Rights Organisation, a local resident said a jet fighter initially carried out bombing attacks on Matupi town, followed by continued assaults from a Y-12 aircraft.

“A jet fighter first carried out bombing attacks on Matupi town, and then a Y-12 aircraft continued the assault. Altogether, we heard more than 20 explosions from the jet fighter and Y-12 attacks combined. The main target appeared to be the former Battalion 304 base area,” added the resident.

At the time of reporting, details regarding casualties, injuries, and damage to civilian property had not yet been confirmed due to ongoing security concerns and communication disruptions in the area.

The latest attacks come amid intensified junta air operations across southern Chin State, where towns including Matupi, Mindat Town, and Kanpetlet have faced repeated airstrikes in recent weeks. – Reporting by Ben
