21 May 2026 – A local Christian pastor in Matupi township was punished by members of the CDF-Daai after accidentally colliding with a rope checkpoint barrier while returning home from a preaching trip, according to local sources.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of 18 May near the 9-mile area outside Matupi town.
The pastor, identified as a local resident in his 60s, was returning home by motorcycle after preaching in a nearby village when he unintentionally struck a rope barrier set up by CDF-Daai forces.
According to the pastor’s account shared on social media, both he and his motorcycle fell after hitting the barrier.
He said a CDF-Daai member then approached him, grabbed him by the neck, and threatened to punch him before he apologised, explaining that he had not seen the rope checkpoint.
The pastor further claimed that he was verbally abused and later ordered to perform 30 sit-stand exercises in front of others as punishment.
In his statement, the pastor expressed disappointment over the treatment, saying that asking for forgiveness traditionally holds deep cultural value among Chin communities, but that such values appeared to be fading in some areas. – Reporting by Ben
