19 May 2026 – The Chin People’s Union / Chin People’s Army (CPU/CPA) has called on Chin communities living abroad to contribute to an emergency defence fund as the SSPC military intensifies preparations for a major offensive in southern Chin State.
The appeal followed a meeting held on 3 May between the CPU/CPA central committee and international support groups, during which participants agreed to launch fundraising efforts to support emergency defence operations in Chin State.
In a statement issued on 11 May, CPU/CPA urged Chin communities and revolutionary supporters in Singapore to contribute SGD 100 per person in solidarity with resistance fighters defending their ancestral homeland.
A similar appeal was made to Chin communities living in Middle Eastern countries following a meeting on 10 May between Chin revolutionary supporters and CPU/CPA representatives. In a statement released on 18 May, the organisation encouraged individuals in the region to contribute 300,000 kyats each to the emergency defence fund.
The fundraising campaign comes amid reports that the SSPC junta is preparing a large-scale military offensive along the southern Chin State and Chin–Magway border areas.
Local sources said junta forces have mobilised thousands of troops around Saw township in Magway Region, with military columns recently advancing toward Kanpetlet township.
Sources also reported that since early May, the junta has intensified aerial surveillance and carried out repeated jet fighter airstrikes across southern parts of Chin State and the Chin–Magway border region as part of preparations for renewed ground offensives.
Military observers and local sources estimated that around 1,300 junta troops are currently involved in preparations for operations along the Chin–Magway border, while several hundred troops have already entered Kanpetlet township.
CPU/CPA, a member of the Chin Brotherhood (CB) alliance, currently controls and administers parts of Kanpetlet, Mindat, and Matupi townships in Chin State.
Following the junta’s recapture of Falam town in late April, the SSPC military has reportedly been preparing offensives into southern parts of Chin State from the Yaw region of Magway Region while reinforcing operations in northern parts of Chin State through Kalay town in Sagaing Region in coordination with the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA).
Residents along the Chin–Magway border have reportedly been displaced by ongoing military operations and troop movements. – Reporting by Ben
