SSPC troops detain civilians in Saw

15 May 2026 – State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) troops entered Saw town, Magway Region, in large numbers yesterday and detained local civilians, according to residents and local sources.

Initial reports indicated that SSPC troops carried out house-to-house inspections across the town and mainly targeted youths and middle-aged civilian men for arrest.

Local sources said around 25 civilians, including men, women, youths, and middle-aged residents, had been detained. The arrests reportedly began in Thiri ward before spreading to other parts of the town.

Residents warned that while travel into Saw town may still be possible, leaving the town could become difficult and dangerous due to the ongoing military operation. 

Civilians have also been urged not to travel to the town at this time.

Saw is located on the main road connecting Kanpetlet and Mindat towns, and shares a border area with Kanpetlet,s township.

Residents have urged civilians to avoid unnecessary travel to Saw and closely monitor the security situation. – Reporting by Ben
