3 May 2026 – Intense fighting broke out today near Akluai village in Tedim township, Chin State, after allied groups of the Chin Brotherhood (CB) intercepted a military column of the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC).
The clash is interpreted as a precursor to a planned offensive by the CB to capture Tedim town.
The SSPC column was advancing from Kalay town to reinforce its troops in Tedim when the interception occurred between Thangmual and Akluai villages.
Local reports confirmed intense and sustained exchanges of heavy and small arms fire.
Fear of escalating conflict has prompted residents to flee towards the India-Myanmar border and Kalay town, continuing a wave of displacement that began in late April.
Civilians have been urged to avoid the Kalay-Tedim Road due to the ongoing security risks.
The escalation comes amidst increasing military activity by SSPC forces across Chin State, including intensified aerial surveillance near Matupi and troop mobilization toward Mindat, alongside airstrikes in Falam and Kyindwe townships.
Furthermore, the Zomi Revolutionary Army-Eastern Command (ZRA-EC)—an ally of the SSPC military—has opposed the potential offensive, publicly calling on local defence groups to refrain from launching the attack to prevent civilian harm. – Reporting by Daniel
