2 May 2026 – A 13-year-old boy was killed after an artillery shell struck by the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) and exploded at a fuel station near the entrance of Tedim town in Chin State on the afternoon of 2 May, according to local sources.
Initial reports indicate the shell landed at around 2:00 pm, killing the boy instantly at the scene. The victim, identified as Mr. Lian Muan Kim, son of Mr. Pyi Taung and Ms. Zen San Lun, was working at the fuel station near the town’s entrance gate at the time of the incident.
Witnesses said the explosion occurred at the Saimual fuel station, causing fatal injuries. Local residents alleged that the shell had been fired from a nearby military position, identified as Infantry Battalion 269, although this claim has not been independently verified.
The incident occurred amid escalating clashes in Tedim township. Since the morning of 2 May, heavy fighting has been reported near Akluai village between forces of SSPC and allied Chin resistance groups.
A SSPC military column advancing from Kalay toward Tedim to reinforce troops was intercepted and attacked by Chin-allied forces near the villages of Thangmual and Akluai.
Some residents believe the troop buildup may be linked to reports that Chin resistance groups are preparing a coordinated offensive to seize control of Tedim.
Amid growing insecurity, residents have begun fleeing toward the India–Myanmar border and Kalay town. Community members have also urged civilians to avoid travelling along the Kalay–Tedim road due to ongoing clashes and heightened security risks.
The incident has heightened concerns over civilian safety as fighting continues to intensify in the area. – Reporting by Ben
