1 May 2026 – A 17-year-old internally displaced person (IDP), Ms. Ngun Hnem Ṭial, was killed on 30 April, when forces from the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) conducted a drone strike on a displacement shelter near Thlanrawn village in Falam township, Chin State.

The attack occurred at approximately 10:00 am and originated from a position held by SSPC forces near Lungrang village.

The lethal drone attack took place amid escalating clashes as the SSPC seeks to secure control of the strategic Falam-Hakha Road.

Reports indicate that fighting intensified later the same day around Thlanrawn (New village) and nearby Rialti village, where SSPC forces launched repeated and intense drone bombardments during engagements with Chin resistance forces.

The SSPC military has mobilized over 400 troops from Falam town in an attempt to control the corridor, leading to heavy, daily fighting along the road.

This incident is part of a broader, significant escalation in aerial warfare conducted by the SSPC across Chin State.

Recent reports from the region also highlight military actions in other areas, including airstrikes in Kyindwe and Khuanglung village, and intensified surveillance flights near Matupi, raising fears of a wider offensive.

In Falam township, where the drone strike occurred, an elderly woman was also recently reported to have been shot dead by junta troops.

The ongoing violence and mass displacement are worsening the humanitarian situation for local communities in Thlanrawn and surrounding areas.

Separately, there are unverified reports that SSPC troops entered and allegedly looted civilian homes in Zalai, Laizo, and Thanhniar villages, though independent confirmation remains pending. – Reporting by Daniel
