27 April 2026 — State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) forces conducted airstrikes on an oil field area in Pauk township, Magway Region, on the morning of 25 April, local sources confirmed, despite no reported fighting on the ground.

The attack occurred around 10:22 am when three gyrocopters from the Northwestern Regional Military Command in Monywa dropped an estimated 10 bombs across two rounds of strikes.

While no civilian casualties were reported, at least two houses were severely damaged in the targeted oil field area.

This incident follows a pattern of heightened aerial aggression by the SSPC across the region. Just two days prior, on 23 April, five jet fighters launched multiple bombing runs on shelters for internally displaced persons (IDP) near Chaungwa village in the same township.

This aggressive use of air power is consistent with recent reports of the SSPC carrying out heavy aerial bombardments, including dropping 45 bombs on Meezaar village in Paletwa township on 23 April.

The repeated use of airstrikes in non-combat situations, particularly near sites associated with civilian life or refuge, has escalated concerns among local communities regarding civilian safety and continued displacement. – Reporting by Ben
