11 March 2026 — A total of 915 students in Chin State have registered for the 2026 university entrance examination under the SSPC (State Security and Peace Commission), more than double last year’s number, according to local education sources.

The examination, formerly known as matriculation examination, will be conducted at two centres in the State: No. 1 Basic Education High School in Hakha town, Hakha township and No. 1 Basic Education High School in Tedim town, Tedim township.

In Hakha, 594 students have registered for the exam, including 485 on-campus candidates and 109 external candidates. In Tedim, 321 students are registered, with 227 on-campus candidates and 94 external candidates.

The number of candidates marks a significant increase from 2025, when only 408 students from Chin State sat for the exam, with 110 passing — one of the lowest participation levels in the past decade amid ongoing conflict and disruptions to education across the state.

According to an initial report by Chin World, a local education official in Hakha said registrations have increased by 359 compared to last year, expressing hope that more students will be able to complete the exam successfully this year despite the difficult circumstances.

Across Myanmar, the 2026 university entrance examinations are scheduled to take place from 11 March to 17 March, according to the Myanmar Department of Examinations. The annual matriculation exam remains a key gateway for students seeking admission to universities and higher education institutions. – Reporting by Daniel
