27 February 2026 — The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) deployed reinforcements to Infantry Battalion 50 (LIB-50) in Gangaw town, Magway Region, as part of a troop and leadership rotation, according to local sources.

A group led by a column commander from Division 99 arrived by Mi-17 helicopter on the afternoon of 26 February. The incoming unit replaced a battalion commander and troops from Division 33, who were withdrawn from the area during the same operation.

According to Yaw Alinn Tan, the Mi-17 helicopter departed from the Northwestern Regional Military Command in Monywa town at around 12:00 pm and landed near Gangaw town at approximately 12:30 pm. The aircraft reportedly left shortly after completing the troop transfer.

The newly deployed unit reportedly included at least 15 personnel of SSPC. The Division 33 battalion commander and his team had been stationed in Gangaw since January before being rotated out.

Local sources also reported increased military activity in and around Gangaw. Junta forces conducted security patrols and monitored movements in nearby areas.

Residents have been advised to avoid travelling near military bases and to remain cautious due to the increased military presence. – Reporting by Ben
