Federal unity reaffirmed on 79th Panglong anniversary

12 February 2026 — Political leaders and representatives from resistance and consultative groups reaffirmed their dedication to federal democracy and ethnic equality during the 79th anniversary commemoration of the Panglong Agreement, held virtually today.

The ceremony was jointly organized by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), and the National Unity Government (NUG), and included representatives from various ethnic and revolutionary organizations.

The Interim Chin National Consultative Council (ICNCC) participated, with Dr. Kenton Linn, the ICNCC’s delegate to the NUCC, speaking on behalf of the NUCC about the importance of continued unity and collective leadership.

ICNCC Vice Chairperson 1, Mr. Lian Luai, addressed the event on behalf of Chin State and the global Chin community, emphasizing the ‘Panglong spirit’ in establishing a genuine federal union.

Mr. William Chin, representing the Chin Brotherhood (CB), also delivered a message on behalf of the Spring Revolution Alliances (SRA).

Signed on 12 February 1947, the Panglong Agreement remains a powerful symbol of ethnic solidarity and the shared aspiration for equality and self-determination in Myanmar. – Reporting by Ben
