27 December 2025 – The State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) military base in Hakha town came under a major attack yesterday, just two days before the scheduled first-phase elections, which are a key political objective of the SSPC.
The assault was launched by the Chinland Defence Force (CDF-Hakha) at approximately 6:30 am on Friday, targeting the Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 266 compound situated on Mount Rung, which overlooks Hakha, the capital of Chin State.
Local reports indicate that the attack resulted in significant damage, with at least two military buildings—identified as the military clinic and the VIP military quarters—reportedly being destroyed by fire.
According to sources, the fighting was costly for both sides. At least three SSPC soldiers were killed and six injured. The CDF-Hakha, however, sustained heavier losses, with over ten of its members reportedly killed during the attacks.
In immediate retaliation, SSPC forces allegedly launched multiple airstrikes near the town, with military jets reportedly dropping bombs three times. This counter-offensive reportedly damaged several civilian homes.
Residents confirmed that at least three separate clashes occurred in and around Hakha town throughout 26 December.
The SSPC escalated its response by firing heavy weapons into Hakha town and deploying its military jets to drop bombs. Residents reported that one bomb landed on the Chin Christian University campus, two fell near the Galilee Baptist Church, and another two struck the Hakha-Matupi road.
Furthermore, an unexploded bomb was discovered on a road in Pyidawthar Ward.
Detailed assessments of the structural damage are still pending confirmation, though no civilian casualties have yet been reported.
The timing of the operation strongly suggests an attempt to disrupt the SSPC’s planned military-backed elections, which are slated to begin in Hakha and Tedim on Sunday, 28 December 2025.
In response to the looming polls, the CDF-Hakha Central Council has issued a public statement urging citizens to participate in a silent strike on polling day.#
