16 December 2025 — The Global Khumi Organisation (GKO) accused the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) of forcing Khumi Chin people to leave their homes in Paletwa township, Chin State through forced conscription.
GKO said arrests for military service increased after the AA took control of parts of Paletwa township. The group warned these actions could amount to crimes against humanity and genocide.
Local sources said many residents fled to Hakha, Yangon, nearby Mara areas, and Mizoram State in India to avoid recruitment.
Aid workers reported that nearly 400 people from Paletwa township were sheltering in villages in Mizoram’s Lawngtlai District.
Residents said ULA/AA collected names through village administrators and set up checkpoints to stop people of conscription age from travelling.
GKO said forced recruitment has increased displacement and threatens the survival of the Khumi Chin community in Paletwa township. – Reporting by Ben
