1 April 2025 –
On 1 April, a three-wheeled vehicle transporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) to a vaccination centre in Tamu town, Sagaing Region, was involved in an accident near the SAC base on the Tamu-Aung Zeya road. The crash was attributed to brake failure. Among the passengers, Ms. Nang Tin Kim, 24, who is three months pregnant, experienced internal pain. Ms. Hoih Nay, 25, sustained a head injury and received treatment from the Kun Taung health team.
On 1 April at around 10:30 pm, the SAC airstrike near the Vakok Guest House in Mindat town, Chin State, caused damage to several houses.
On 1 April, the Indian Navy initiated Operation Brahma to aid communities in Myanmar affected by an earthquake. Relief supplies, including clean water, medicines, and other essentials, arrived at Lengpui Airport in Aizawl aboard an Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster.
2 April 2025 –
On 2 April at around 1:30 pm, SAC jet fighters dropped a total of two 500-pound bombs on Mindat town in Chin State. A resident of Mindat township told Zalen, “Mindat town was hit, but detailed information is still unknown, and we do not yet know if there were any casualties.”
On 2 April at around 1:15 pm, SAC jet fighters bombed Kanpetlet town in Chin State, damaging homes, offices, and guesthouses, and injuring several residents. The Kanpetlet People’s Administration Group warned locals to remain vigilant due to ongoing airstrikes.
On 2 April at around 1 pm, the ZRA (Zomi Revolutionary Army) entered and fired upon a CDF-Tonzang camp located in Mualkawi village, Tonzang township, Chin State. The ZRA also entered Tonzang town and began shooting at the police station and the hills surrounding the fire station.
3 April 2025 –
On 3 April at around 11:30 am, a clash erupted between the CDF-Tonzang (Chinland Defence Force) and the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) in Tonzang town, Chin State, an area under the control of the Chinland Council (CC). According to a local resident, the ZRA attacked the CC camp in the town, and the firefight lasted about an hour before the ZRA retreated after suffering casualties.
4 April 2025 –
On 4 April, Mr. Maung Phoe Khwa and Mr. Myo Min Kyaw from SAC’s LIB-269 in Tedim town, Chin State, surrendered to PDF-Zoland (People’s Defence Force) along with weapons and ammunition. They received a cash reward.
5 April 2025 –
On 5 April at around 9:00 am, a 25-year-old Chin woman was sexually assaulted by an AA (Arakan Army) officer and a comrade in Sein Sin village, Paletwa township, Chin State. The incident occurred while she was gathering food in a field, roughly 10 minutes from her village. The woman was reportedly raped and nearly drowned. Her mother-in-law, concerned by her prolonged absence, discovered her and, by screaming for help, managed to frighten the attackers away, according to a resident who told Kimo media.
6 April 2025 –
On 6 April, the CDF-Thantlang marked its 4th anniversary, announcing that its 67 members and 17 civilians had been killed by the SAC over four years. The group honoured its fallen comrades who died in the ongoing revolution struggle and thanked supporters at home and abroad for their continuing support.
7 April 2025 –
On 7 April, SAC personnel from LIB 266 based in Mount Rung, including two recruits and a police officer, surrendered weapons and ammunition to CDF-Hakha (Chinland Defence Force).
On 7 April, two SAC soldiers named Pho Hla Pyae and Soe Lin Aung from LIB-269 of the SAC stationed in Tedim town, Chin State, surrendered to the People’s Defence Forces-Zoland (PDF-Zoland) along with their weapons.
On 7 April, the Chin Brotherhood and its allies seized complete control of Falam town in Chin State, capturing the SAC’s IB-268 base. During the battle, SAC troops abandoned women, children, and wounded comrades, resulting in the arrest of around 200 SAC soldiers. The offensive began on 9 November 2024, with SAC sending multiple reinforcements. Despite facing over 1,000 SAC airstrikes, the Chin Brotherhood pressed on and successfully secured the town.
8 April 2025 –
On 8 April at around midnight, revolutionary forces attacked a military bunker in Hnawnyaungpin village, Sagaing Region, killing four villagers on night watch. The battle, lasting over an hour, ended with the victims found near a sunflower field. The village, under SAC control, had mandatory night shifts with fines for noncompliance.
9 April 2025 –
On 9 April at around 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm, the SAC dropped bombs with a jet fighter on Nan Khan village, Wuntho township, Sagaing Region, killing more than 20 people, including children and injuring several others.
On 9 April at around 11:00 pm, the SAC dropped a 1000-pound bomb on Sezang village, Tedim township, Chin State, destroying 10 houses and killing six residents, including three children. However, there was no fighting between both sides in the area, the residents of Tedim township told Chin World Media.
On 9 April at around 9:00 pm, the SAC dropped a bomb on Hpwi village, Mindat township, killing six villagers, including an 8-month-old baby, a 7-year-old child, a young disabled man, two elderly persons and a pastor, and 10 others were injured.
10 April 2025 –
On 10 April, the Chin Social Association in Kalay town donated more than 20 million kyats to earthquake victims in Sagaing town, Sagaing Region, offering rice, food, water, and cash assistance.
On 10 April at around 3:00 pm, SAC troops from Kyaukhtu Artillery launched drone strikes on Kangyi village in Gangaw District, Magway Region. The attack damaged a road but did not result in any injuries. Bombs were also dropped near the high school intersection despite the absence of fighting, according to a local resident who reported this to Zalen.
On 10 April, the Chinland Defence Force-Matupi Brigade 1 officially renamed itself as Chin Defence Force-Matupi on 2-3 April to better represent the Chin people. On its fourth anniversary, it announced the name change, paid tribute to fallen members, established a new leadership structure, and founded the Matupi Revolutionary Organisation. Over four years, 22 members lost their lives, and 10 were disabled. The group has fought SAC forces, capturing Matupi town on 29 June 2024, and remains committed to opposing military rule and rebuilding Chin State.
11 April 2025 –
On 11 April, local defense groups captured Kyantha village, a Pyusawhti (pro-SAC militia) stronghold in Kalay township, Sagaing Region. Around 15 Pyusawhti members and SAC soldiers were killed, and weapons and equipment were seized. Many injured fled, so casualty figures are uncertain. Remaining SAC forces retreated towards Hanthawaddy village.
On 11 April at around 7:00 pm, the SAC dropped 300-pound bombs three times on Zingale village in Mingin township, Sagaing Region, killing Ms. Nan Chaw, aged 28, and Ms. Aye New, aged 31, injuring 10 civilians and destroying three houses.
12 April 2025 –
On 12 April at around 2:00 pm, the SAC dropped bombs on the monastery in Kyakhat village, Depayin township, Sagaing Region. Six people, including three monks, were killed, at least five civilians were injured, two of whom were seriously injured, and a monastery was damaged.
13 April 2025 –
On April 13 at about 12:06 pm, Meiktila Air Force jet fighters bombed Nyaung Kone village, Kawlin township, Sagaing Region, despite no fighting. “Although no clash occurred, the jet dropped bombs three times on an IDP site in the village without reason, injuring a man and a woman,” said a resident.
On 13 April at around 4:00 pm, the SAC dropped bombs on Mindat Baptist Church in Mindat town, Chin State. The District Education Office building and some residential houses in the town were also destroyed.
On 13 April, three SAC soldiers from LIB 266 in Hakha town, Chin State, surrendered to the Chinland Defence Force-Hakha (CDF-Hakha). They handed over an MA1, an MA3, and an MA11, along with military equipment.
14 April 2025 –
On 14 April at around 11:00 am, a car carrying women from Dawn Baptist Church who had just returned from the Zahnak Area Baptist Women Department (ZABWD) training in Ruabuk village, Thantlang township, Chin State, experienced a brake failure just before reaching Ralpel village. The accident resulted in the deaths of Ms. Men Ci, aged 55, and Ms. Duh Rem Mawi, aged 22, and left three others injured.
On 14 April at around 11:00 pm, Mr. Van Uk Cung, aged 50, tragically died after falling from the Emerald Hotel in Aizawl, Mizoram, India. Despite medical treatment, he died early on 15 April because of severe injuries. Plans are being made to send his body back to the USA. A Texas-based activist, he was passionately involved in the Spring Revolution and fundraising for the Chinland Club of USA, leaving the Chin community in mourning.
15 April 2025 –
On 15 April, civil society groups from Mizoram, including the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Zo Re-Unification Organisation (ZORO), Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), and Mizo Students’ Union (MSU), met with Home Secretary Govind Mohan in New Delhi. The meeting, hosted by the Home Ministry, focused on discussions about India-Myanmar border fencing and the Free Movement Regime, according to local media. The Home Secretary recommended that the central government approve the fencing plan without objections.
16 April 2025 –
On 16 April at around 8:00 am, SAC carried out an airstrike near Kanchaung village, Saw township, Magway Region. There were no reported casualties, but the ground situation remains under investigation, a local resident told Zalen.
17 April 2025 –
On 17 April, the Yaw Defence Force reported that one YDF soldier was killed and six others wounded in the battle in Falam town, Chin State, which began on 9 November. The YDF contributed manpower and support to the operation. The group remains committed to freeing the Yaw region and eradicating the Myanmar military dictatorship, honouring fallen comrades and pledging to continue their mission.
On 17 April at around 2:00 pm, SAC launched an airstrike on Matupi town in Chin State and its outskirts, resulting in five civilians injured. One of the victims, a pastor, lost a leg and remains in critical condition. Four of the injured are currently undergoing emergency medical care. The airstrike also caused damage to several houses.
18 April 2025 –
On 18 April, the Kanpetlet Township People’s Administration reported that the SAC carried out seven airstrikes on Kanpetlet town, Chin State, within this month, using 300- and 500-pound bombs. The strikes resulted in one civilian death, one injury, and the destruction of 18 civilian houses. Additionally, 30 other homes were partially damaged, along with 14 former government buildings and a hostel, for a total of 63 structures affected.
On 18 April, the SAC soldiers detained individuals fleeing from Mindat township, Chin State, heading towards Pakokku town. Among those arrested, a man over 50 years old died during interrogation.
19 April 2025 –
On 19 April at around 2:40 am, SAC carried out airstrikes in Kyauktaw, including Pyidawtha Ward, Myothit Ward, Shan Ywa Ward, and Kata Streets (6th, 7th, 8th) in Rakhine State. A man was killed, and approximately 20 others, including IDPs, children, and women, were injured. Some injured are critical, and those affected are receiving medical care, according to a local resident.
20 April 2025 –
On 20 April, the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) attacked the Chinland Council (CC) camp in Tonzang township, Chin State, causing casualties among ZRA fighters. The next day, Corporal Ezra Lalrotlinga, a CDF-Hualngoram fighter, was killed while deactivating a ZRA-planted landmine.
21 April 2025 –
On 21 April, CDF-Zophei (Chinland Defence Force) announced that six of its members had been killed in the four-year struggle against Myanmar’s military dictatorship. The group, formed after the 2021 coup, pledges to continue fighting for federal democracy. Many fighters have also been injured. CDF-Zophei honoured its fallen heroes and thanked local and international supporters.
22 April 2025 –
On 22 April, the CDF-Hakha (Chinland Defence Force) reported the arrest of two SAC police officers in Hakha town, Chin State, for using weapons to threaten and extort money from the public. The group also stated it would act against SAC members responsible for causing various sufferings to innocent civilians.
23 April 2025 –
On 23 April at around 9:00 am, SAC troops from LIB 50 shelled Kyaw Ywa village in Gangaw township, Magway Region, using heavy weaponry, firing about 10 rounds. The attack resulted in one man killed, his daughter injured, and damage to homes.
24 April 2025 –
On 24 April at about 11:00 am, a jet fighter from Meiktila Air Force bombed near Ah Hlaw village in Tamu township, Sagaing Region. No casualties are reported.
On 24 April, the CDF CDM Siyin apprehended two local men, aged 34 and 33, for extortion, having misused the group’s name. They had previously been warned after the Taingen conflict concerning stolen group property, but continued their activities. Specifically, they solicited money in Tedim town on 20 April and from travellers in Akluai village on 21 April.
On 24 April, SAC soldiers killed a 29-year-old Mr. Dominic Dal Khen Nang in Kalay town while returning home from visiting his mother. His family searched for him, found he had been killed, and his ashes were returned after cremation on April 26.
25 April 2025 –
On 25 April at around 1:30 pm, the SAC launched airstrikes in Saw township, Magway Region, targeting areas near Htoo Gyi and Chaung Kwa villages with two jet fighters. SAC troops fired twice near Htoo Gyi and twice at the hill above Chaung Kwa, using machine guns, with ongoing forest fires caused by the airstrikes. Casualty details remain unknown, a local resident told Zalen.
On 25 April at around 5:00 am, the local defence force attacked the Yenanthar SAC police station in Kamma township, Magway Region. The police chief and his team fled after falsely claiming they would surrender. An SAC sergeant was captured, and military equipment such as rifles, ammunition, vehicles, and motorcycles was confiscated.
26 April 2025 –
On 26 April, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, leaders of the Chin Refugee Committee (CRC) in New Delhi met with Mr. Richard Vanlalhmangaiha to address issues faced by refugees, including school concerns, workplace harassment, and church inspections. They also discussed problems related to visas, fines, and police clearance certificates. Vanlalhmangaiha said that he would continue to do everything possible to alleviate the hardships of all Myanmar refugees residing in New Delhi.
On 26 April, three SAC soldiers from Yesagyo township in Magway Region, who had been forcibly recruited, joined local defence groups armed with three weapons, 500 bullets, grenades, and magazines. They received payments of 35 lakh kyats.
27 April 2025 –
On 27 April, SAC forces carried out airstrikes with Y-12 aircraft on Karu Taung and Kun Khin villages in Kyaukhtu township, Magway Region. Local residents reported no definitive information about the ground situation or casualties.
On 27 April, SAC carried out airstrikes in southern Kalay township, Sagaing Region, using jet fighters and Mi-35 attack aircraft, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to schools, monasteries, and hospitals. Villages near Nat Chaung village were also struck, impacting those fleeing into the forest. Due to communication issues, the exact number of injured and damaged houses remains uncertain, a local resident told Zalen.
29 April 2025 –
On 29 April, the CDF-Asho (Chinland Defence Force) reported killing 10 SAC soldiers during a two-hour battle in Sar Chaung village, Min Hla township, Bago Region. Subsequently, SAC forces were bombed by three aircraft, and the ACDF captured weapons and equipment. The surviving SAC troops retreated and set up a camp at a monastery in Htaut Kyant village.
On 29 April, two of the five Chin youths arrested at a checkpoint in Kalewa town, Sagaing Region, were released while the other three remained detained. The arrest by SAC soldiers took place on 22 April when they were returning from Yangon towards Paletwa township.
General news updates in April:
- Hakha town residents are experiencing severe disruptions due to a power outage that has lasted over two weeks. This prolonged blackout, attributed to a damaged remote tower, has forced a significant increase in reliance on charcoal, with prices soaring from 25,000 kyats to 40,000 kyats per bag. Communication is also severely affected, with only sporadic MPT SIM card functionality and unstable internet access. Daily life has been reduced to a challenging cycle of “work one day, eat one day,” and the approaching summer is expected to worsen these hardships.
- SAC’s aerial bombardment in Lone Sun village, Magway Region, destroyed about 50 houses, causing residents to flee – over 1,000 IDPs now taking shelter in the forest without food, water, or medicine. Nearby Chin villages are evacuating due to fears of more airstrikes.
- The Arakan Army (AA) has been recruiting Chin people from Paletwa township to undergo military training and serve in the armed forces after AA officers and administrators recently visited Chin villages in Paletwa township, Chin State, according to Kimo Media.
- In Chin State, the Daai Regional Council (DRC) has forbidden students from enrolling in SAC-operated schools for the 2025-26 academic year. The DRC is collaborating with the National Unity Government to provide alternative educational opportunities. Parents are required to withdraw their children by 31 May; failure to comply will result in disciplinary action starting 1 June. The DRC is also in the process of establishing public administration within the townships of Kanpetlet, Paletwa, Matupi, and Mindat.
