21 November 2025 — A tragic motor vehicle accident near Vanzang village in Thantlang township at approximately 7:00 pm yesterday resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to 38 other passengers.
The incident occurred when a truck, estimated to be carrying 35 to 39 local travelers, reportedly lost control and veered off the road near the entrance to Vanzang village, plummeting down a significant drop.
Local reports suggest the driver swerved to avoid a rock on the road in the darkness.
A female passenger, identified as the mother of a ten-month-old child, was pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining 38 passengers sustained various injuries, with a local resident reporting that approximately 20 people suffered serious injuries due due to the height of the fall. Local medical teams are currently treating the injured.
In the immediate aftermath, residents from Vanzang and surrounding villages, including Sopum and Farrawn, swiftly mobilized to the scene. Their efforts provided crucial on-the-ground support and significantly assisted in the rescue operations for the victims.— Reporting by Daniel
