Note: Each paragraph is a separate piece of brief news compiled in date order.

1 July 2025 – 

On 1 July, the Matupi-Sami road is being repaired by the Matupi Revolutionary Organisation (MRO)/Chin Defence Force-Matupi (CDF-Matupi) due to the ongoing rainy season, which has damaged the roads and caused landslides. Heavy vehicles have been restricted on the Matupi-Sami road due to heavy rain in Chin State. 

On 1 July, CDF-KKG (Chinland Defence Force), established to overthrow the SAC coup, commemorated four years. During this period, more than 70 comrades have been killed and over 150 wounded while fighting against SAC. CDF-KKG pays tribute to those who fought to bring down the dictatorship, defend the people, and establish a federal union.

2 July 2025 – 

On 2 July at about 1:00 pm, clashes occurred between CDF-Hualngoram and CNO/CNDF in Falam township, Chin State. CNO/CNDF bombed villages Satawm and Lianhna with drones, and fighting took place in Falam township. Residents fled or hid during the attacks, resulting in injuries. 

On 2 July, more than 40 Chin individuals were detained in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A local Chin resident explained: “The raids were carried out randomly in response to complaints. Those lacking proper identification were detained. Over 40 Chin people were arrested in total.”

4 July 2025 – 

On 4 July at around 2:00 pm, a six-wheeled food transport vehicle fell 70 metres below the road near Saizang village in Tedim township, Chin State. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities occurred. Recently, heavy rains have damaged roads and led to frequent accidents caused by vehicles skidding.

5 July 2025 – 

On 5 July at around 6:00 am, local defence groups under the Chinland Council, Chin Brotherhood, and People Defence Force (PDF) attacked and captured SAC outpost in Mualpi village, situated 17 miles from Kalay town, in Tedim Township in Chin State.

On 5 July from 8 am to 6 pm, the clash continued in Rihkhuadar, an India-Myanmar border village in Falam township, reportedly forcing more than over two thousands from Rihkhuadar to seek refuge in Zokhuathar village in Mizoram State, India. 

On 5 July, the SAC and Pyusawhti (Pro-SAC-Militia) camp in Nyaung Pin Wun village, Kalay township, Sagaing Region, was attacked by local defence groups. Six members of the SAC and Pyusawhti were killed in the attack, and seven guns were seized.

6 July 2025 – 

On 6 July, Pu Lalmuanpuia, head of the Advocacy Group for Peace, traveled to Rihkhawdar in Falam township, Chin State. The purpose of his visit was to assess the situation and offer reassurance to residents amidst ongoing clashes between the CNO/CNDF and HPO/CDF-Hualngoram.

On 6 July, CNF/A announced that no villagers would be allowed to enter Chinlung areas for the time being because of safety and security concerns following the recent skirmishes between local defence groups in Falam Township. 

7 July  2025 – 

On 7 July in Delhi, the protest started and has remained peaceful every day. Myanmar refugees have been demonstrating outside the UNHCR office in New Delhi, India, for six days, demanding protection from UNHCR. 

8 July  2025 – 

On 8 July, the Mindat Township People’s Administration in Chin State released a video showing the destruction of seized alcohol in front of its owners during the second anti-drug inspection by local authorities. The confiscated alcohol, known as Grand Royal, includes approximately 20 bottles. 

On 8 July, the NUCC (National Unity Consultative Council) called for an urgent resolution to the conflict between Chin revolutionary forces, expressing strong concern over recent clashes. It urged all parties to end armed confrontation and pursue a political solution, reaffirming its willingness to assist negotiations and emphasising the importance of the revolution and the people’s interests.

On 8 July, CDF-Kanpetlet (Chin Defence Force) announced that they had completed a 2-week Basic Military Training, which took over four months. The force also expressed its gratitude to the ULA/AA (United League of Arakan/Arakan Army) and all local and international supporters who contributed to the training’s success.

On 8 July, CDF-Hakha (Chinland Defence Force) reported that three members of Battalion No. 15 from Yinmabin District, Sagaing Region, along with a driver and an assistant, were detained in Hakha township, Chin State, for drug trafficking. These five individuals, operating under a permit issued by Battalion No. 15 Commander Phoe Thaung, were discovered with about 3 million stimulant tablets and 110 kilograms of heroin. 

9 July  2025 – 

On 9 July, the Government of National Unity and Interim President Duwa Lashi La issued a letter urging all Chin defence groups to seek peaceful solutions to their conflicts. He noted that since 4 July, Chin defence groups in Chin State—such as the Chin National Front (CNF/CNA), Chin National Defence Force (CNO/CNDF), and Chinland Defence Force-Hualngoram (CDF-Hualngoram)-have been engaged in ongoing clashes and military tensions.

10 July  2025 – 

On 10 July, the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) donated 6 lakh rupees to support refugees fleeing from Rihkhawdar. The funds were allocated to Zokhawthar (3 lakh rupees), Vaphai (2 lakh rupees), and Champhai (1 lakh rupees), coordinated through YMA branches. Recent clashes between the CNDF (Chin National Defence Force) and the HPO (Hualngoram People Organisation) Rihkhawdar in Falam township, Chin State, have forced 4,000 to 5,000 refugees to cross into Mizoram. 

11 July 2025 – 

On 11 July at around 1:00 am, SAC aircraft bombed the monastery in Lin Ta Lu village, Sagaing township, Sagaing Region. The bombings killed 28 people, including children and adults. The death toll may rise as many people are injured.

On 11 July, a SAC soldier, who was illegally recruited in Tamu township, Sagaing Region, reportedly surrendered to a local defence group without any weapons.

13 July  2025 – 

On 13 July, Ms. Catherine Barry, a Chin woman also known as Nu Thawng Par, represented Myanmar at Miss World 2025 and won four awards, including the Mrs. Grand International 2025 crown. Now 43 years old, she is a mother of four and lives in Yangon.

On 13 July, the CDF–Matupi Brigade-2 warned that the ongoing presence might disrupt peace, causing conflict and civilian casualties. In response, CDF–Matupi Brigade-1/MRO and allies launched a major offensive into Brigade-2 territory, establishing bases and detaining armed group members temporarily.

14 July  2025 – 

On 14 July, Mizoram’s Chief Minister, Pu Lalduhoma, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. Their discussion focused on the recent armed conflicts between two Chin local defence groups and their impact on Mizoram. This violence in Chin State has led to over 4,000 people seeking refuge in Mizoram, which has already been hosting more than 32,000 refugees since the 2021 military coup in Myanmar.

15 July 2025 – 

On 15 July, Chin National University (CNU) announced vacancies for Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, and Professor. Suitable candidates with relevant degrees or experience are encouraged to apply: undergraduates or postgraduates for Assistant Lecturer, Ph.D holders for Lecturer, and individuals with experience in university, college, institute, or government service for higher roles. 

17 July 2025 – 

On 17 July, Kalay-Taingen road, which had been blocked due to military operations by SAC from Kalay town, was reopened to the public, according to a report from the Chinland Defence Force (CDF CDM-Siyin).

On 17 July, over 3,000 Myanmar refugees who had sought shelter in Zokhawthar, Saikhumphai, and Vaphai villages in Champhai district have now returned to Rihkhawdar town, Falam township, Chin State. They crossed the border due to armed conflict between the CNDF and CDF-Hualngoram.

On 17 July at around 5:30 pm, a SAC jet dropped a 500-pound bomb on Chinland Defence Force–Matupi Brigade-2 headquarters. No members were hurt. This was the SAC military council’s first airstrike on their headquarters.

On 17 July, CDF-Hakha announced that residents of Hakha cannot leave except for health or urgent reasons. Those leaving without returning will not be allowed back after the revolution. The forces plan to take control of Hakha and are closing the town until then. All residents outside Hakha, including those in India, should return before the end of July; leaving during the revolution or lockdown without returning will result in bans. Only individuals with medical needs, chronic illnesses, or family emergencies, approved by a doctor or local authorities and with a guarantor, may travel outside.

17 July 2025 – 

On 17 July, Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles detained the vice chairman of the Maraland Defence Force (MDF), along with a substantial cache of military equipment, in Tuipang (Tipa) village, Siaha district, Mizoram, India. 

18 July 2025 – 

On 18 July at around 11:30 am, a SAC drone struck Naung (Chin) village in Ngape, Magway Region, close to Ann-Padan road. An 88-year-old Chin woman died, another woman was injured, and several homes were damaged.

19 July 2025 – 

On 19 July, the Chinland Defence Force/Civic Defence Militia (CDF/CDM-Siyin) based in the Siyin area of Tedim township, Chin State, was allowed to use the Kalay-Taingen road from 17 July. However, residents have been unable to access the road because SAC troops established a checkpoint near Khaikam town on the Kalay-Taingen route.

20 July 2025 – 

On 20 July, the Chin National Organisation (Upper Chindwin Region) announced that authorities in Sagaing Region seized 800,000 WY pills, four bags, four mobile phones, and 15,000,000 kyats in cash during a transport from Kalay to Tamu. The people were transporting the drugs on four motorcycles between Kalay and Yesagyo towns on 18 July. 

On 20 July, Mr. Lone Ma, aged 35, from Doe Chaung Wa village, Paletwa township, Chin State, was detained by the Arakan Army (AA) at Than Htaung village for helping Rakhine youths cross a creek on their way to Yangon. A regular transporter, he has since lost contact with his family and is feared to have been taken to Mrauk-U. With the AA banning Rakhine youths from leaving, many attempt secret routes through Paletwa township, facing arrests, forced conscription, or deadly risks like drowning.

21  July 2025 – 

On 21 July, the Interim Maraland Council (IMC) reported that the Maraland Defence Force (MDF) and Arakan Army (AA) forcibly detained Mr. Lai Hu, the Chairman of the Maraland Village Council, along with council member Mr. Man Do from their residences. They were then transported to a detention centre in Lailenpi town, Chin State, where reports indicate they were subjected to beatings.

22 July 2025 –

On 22 July, CDF–Hualngoram arrested about 20 civilians in Rihkhawdar, Falam township, Chin State, 16 individuals were released, while four were detained. Leader Pu Puitea fired three warning shots near the border bridge, resulting in a woman fainting and requiring hospitalization.

On 21 July, three members of the Meitei army group fled from Tamu town in Sagaing Region. Indian security forces detained them at Border Post-79 near Moreh town on the India-Myanmar border.

On 22 July, the Chin Human Rights Organization reported that 23 out of 25 teachers expelled by the junta are from Chin State, highlighting that the spirit of civil disobedience remains strong. This isn’t merely punishment but a recognition of their bravery. Chin teachers continue to set an example, refusing to submit to tyranny. Their sacrifice serves as a reminder that the road to freedom is forged by those courageous enough to stand up, regardless of the consequences.

23 July 2025 –

On 23 July, the SAC’s closure of the Kalay-Taingen road, vital for linking Kalay and northern Chin State, caused price surges and shortages in Tedim township, despite the CDF’s announcement of its reopening on 17 July. Rice prices alone have jumped from 120,000 to 150,000-180,000 kyats.

On July 23, the Young Mizo Association of Champhai District, Mizoram, issued guidelines for Burmese refugees. Refugees must register with ward officials, submit Myanmar ID cards, and follow local laws. They cannot form new tribal organisations or churches. Ward YMAs must be notified before moving between wards. Drug trafficking is prohibited, with offenders facing imprisonment, deportation, and public exposure.

25 July 2025 –

On 24 July, SAC soldiers in Hakha town, Chin State, seized WiFi devices on the orders of the LIB 266 commander from Mount Rung where the SAC battalion is based. A resident said the devices were taken for various reasons, including demands for commanders to receive them from companies or in response to complaints.

25 July 2025 –

On 25 July, a road connecting Mizoram’s Laki village to Paletwa township in Chin State was under construction. The project is led by MTC/MDF (Mara Territory Council/Mara Defence Force), with support from the Mara Autonomous District Council in India. The road will pass through 10 northern Mara villages and aims to enhance transportation and food access for the Mara community.

26 July 2025 –

On 26 July at around 9 am, Mr. Naing Lone, aged 40, from Kyay Taw village, went missing in Pyi Chaung Sone village, Paletwa township, Chin State, after his boat was observed drifting with cargo onboard. For three days, villagers searched the creek in an area notorious for drownings, disappearances, and smuggling activities.

27 July 2025 –

On 27 July, Ms. Moe Ri, aged 32, suffered a leg amputation after stepping on a SAC mine while gathering firewood near a former military outpost west of Mindat town, Chin State. She is currently receiving medical care. Ms. Myu Hlee, also present at the scene, sustained no serious injuries.

On 27 July, the Myanmar Examination Department under the SAC military council released the 2025 matriculation exam results. Chin State had the lowest pass rate, with only 110 of 408 candidates passing (26.96%), making it the worst in the country.

27 July 2025 –

On 28  July, biometric data were collected from over 1,900 of the 32,000 Myanmar refugees in Mizoram, India. The process faces delays due to equipment issues and poor internet. Refugees were asked for personal details without a clear explanation, raising concerns. Civil society leaders believe India’s central government pushes the move and may be linked to Myanmar’s upcoming junta-led elections.

29 July 2025 –

On 29 July, Champhai District Commissioner Pu Mohammad Aaquib chaired a meeting to discuss the collection of personal information from refugees. Authorities will begin collecting biometric data from Myanmar refugees on 31 July, starting with the 13,586 individuals already registered in Champhai.

30 July 2025 –

On 30 July, Mr. Salai Tony Sui Tling, a 20-year-old Chin youth who had recently arrived in the United States on an international student visa, tragically drowned just five days after his arrival while visiting a creek with his family, according to a statement from the Indiana Chin Baptist Church.

On 30 July at around 9 pm, a house fire, reportedly caused by a study candle, tragically resulted in the death of a nine-year-old internally displaced child in Lumte village, Falam township, Chin State.

On 30 July, the Zotung Federal Council urged the Chin National Army (CNA) to withdraw its brigade-level deployment in Rezua town, Matupi township, Chin State, saying it was done without permission and undermines local authority. The council called it a threat to residents, while CNA has not yet responded.

31 July 2025 –

On 31 July, the military council announced a state of emergency in 63 townships, including seven in Chin State: Paletwa (controlled by the Arakan Army), Tonzang, Falam, Matupi, Mindat, and Kanpetlet. Thantlang remains a conflict zone with ongoing fighting between the military and local defence groups.

General news updates in July:

  • Local sources indicate that the central government of India will begin collecting biometric data from Myanmar refugees in Mizoram by the end of July. This initiative, with an allocated budget of 3.8 lakh rupees, will utilise an online system, commencing in areas with internet access.
