Mice destroy crops in Paletwa Township

25 September 2015 — Residents in Paletwa Township, Chin State say that their subsistence crops are being destroyed by rodents.

A sudden influx of mice brings destruction to plants including rice, corns, beans, peas and sesame in both lowland and upland fields, according to Paletwa farmers.

The Khumi Media Group said that crops belonging to about 100 villages had been affected and that residents would not have enough food from their harvest.

It added that the mice were very small and different from the ones destroying crops in 2007 and 2008.

“Villagers depending on subsistence farming are getting worried now as they know they won’t reap enough from their fields this year,” a Paletwa resident told the KMG.#
