Lightning kills eight buffaloes, destroys two transformers
08 April 2015 — Bad weather with thunder and lightning killed eight buffaloes in Tlangkhua village, Thantlang Township and damaged two transformers in Hakha, Chin State.
Lightning reportedly struck to death eight buffaloes sheltering in a paddy field tent from the weather around 11am yesterday and destroyed two newly installed transformers, one on Wednesday and another on Saturday, causing power cuts in parts of Hakha, according to the Hakha Post.
Villagers said that the buffaloes, belonging to Cung Hup, Thio Thang and Tial Uk, died instantly and that they would be worth at least 4,000,000 kyats.
The Hakha Township Electric Department said that they were working hard to get the electricity back, adding: “They managed to replace the one providing power to the State government building with a new transformer.”
Pu Kim, from the department, said that they were trying to get a new transformer from Falam to get the other fixed, according to the Hakha Post.#
