Thura Shwe Mann reschedules trip to Chin State

26 October 2013: Thura Shwe Mann, Speaker of the Lower House of the Burmese parliament, has put off his ‘planned’ visit to Chin State, a source close to the government of Chin State said.

The Speaker, who was expected to arrive in Hakha today, is known to have postponed his trip reportedly due to bad weather conditions in Burma’s western state.

A government employee from Hakha told Chinland Guardian: “We heard that his trip was rescheduled for next month.”

Community leaders from Thantlang said that they were informed that he was not arriving and that they didn’t need to travel to Hakha to participate in the welcoming reception.

It is not yet known as to when the 66-year-old ex-military leader will travel to the country’s least developed state.

Hakha residents say that it has been raining heavily during the past few days.#
